Some people do, just like some people are putting their music in an open feed. I’m pretty loose with what I consider a podcast. It’s an RSS file available in an open index that points to an open audio file. That file could be a sports show, comedy bit, music, news, audio book, etc.

Perfect. If I ever get the time, I want to create an ESP32 or Arduino server that controls some relays based on the boost amounts that come in. It should be pretty easy to build since Alby and Helipad already have webhooks and just forward the boost info to the ESP32 server.

I fixed the registration with The Split Kit. https://www.thesplitkit.com/register
The Split Kit also plays sort of nice with Sovereign Feeds, so you can build your value time splits in The Split Kit, then import them into Sovereign Feeds.

One nice thing about TSK, is you can just build a list of your songs with start times, and it will build something like this for you to paste into your feed. Makes building those valueTimeSplits way easier.

Nah, you can log in with email also. It's preferred. And yes, the live updates repo gives you a bare bones client and server to see what's going on behind the scenes. TSK just makes it pretty-ish (I'm no designer) and makes it easy to query the index and build out the json from the found feeds. As you know, hand coding guids is a pain.

I started working on this thing back in April of 22, just never got around to finishing it. Probably got distracted with something else.

I'm not sure if it's possible at this point. I wish there was an easy way to program sending fiat instead of sats, I wish there was an easy way to use Lightning, but none of this is easy right now. I've pondered how can we make this easier myself. I've even demonstrated to people in person, and most of them look at me like I'm doing open heart surgery. I wish I had better answers, but for now, I think the tools are still too complicated for most.

Honestly, I think it's going to take Podcasters more than anything. They have the audience, and if they can do an ad read for a Casper mattress, and say "Subscribe on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts" then they can say "Look guys, you're my audience, and you're my support system, and I hate reading Casper mattress ads to you. I understand and respect that, and I hope you're able to figure out how to turn it into a business. I think TrueFans is great looking app, and you're very innovative with the features you're adding. I wish I had some suggestions, but I'm not sure how to make podcasting profitable as an app when there's so many free options available and RSS is by it's very essence free to access.

You keep mentioning if Apple wasn't free, and I'm not sure how that has any bearing on anything. We have no control over Apple, and the very nature of RSS means that anyone can make a free podcast player, not just Apple.
How would you propose we get around that outside of having the data for a feed inside of some sort of walled garden?

I guess it comes down to different motivation for different folks. I suspect most of us on this instance are working on this because it's a passion project, not because we're trying to generate revenue, so our goals are different.
I'm perfectly happy working with these guys making a v4v concert that I suspect less than 200 people saw, because it was fun for me, not because I was going to make any money. The $40 I did make was bonus, but not why I did it.

You're asking this question amongst a group of people that have all volunteered to get a wallet and pay, so yes, while Podcasts remain free (which they all are) people will feel the need to get a wallet and pay if it's a podcast they're passionate enough to support.
It's coming across that you would like to see a model similar to Medium or Substack for audio, which Truefans could totally become, but then it ceases to be podcasting. RSS is the open internet.

I end up doing v4 in my feed generators, especially MSP because having a musician figure out their domain and url to their feed before they generate their feed, then having them input that so I could generate the proper uuid seemed like an unnecessarily complicated step.
And the v5 seems kind of odd considering the guid lives with the feed regardless of the feedUrl, so a feed that changes hosts would have the original host url tied to the guid forever.

I'm not entirely sure if there's anything wrong on your end. A cursory look says no, but I haven't had a chance to do a deep dive as to what was causing the error to even occur. I'll try and look into it lunch today and let you know if I notice anything.
