Also nah, Devuan sucks as well and includes the same amount of firmware shit that Debian does on their ISOs. There seems to be no proper fully free Debian distro as of right now, PureOS is Debian-based but not a sanitized, free mirror of Debian.

Reminder that from Debian 12 (releasing in two days) and onwards, their official install ISOs will include nonfree software by default to "ensure hardware compatibility", so that'll be extra work sanitizing installs if you wanna keep your system clean of useless and nonfree crap. Nonfree components like Linux, also it's the only email client (that isn't completely proprietary) that has implemented non-IMAP/SMTP standard email support for FAGMAN email substitutes which is questionable, specially considering the influence it has.

Well to be fair it was rather more of a specific client issue (Gajim) and the fact it does not default to encryption out of the box for some reason. Since I'm used to Matrix, I was looking for encryption settings in the client itself when all I really had to do was clicking a padlock icon in the message input box to enable it, it's the drawback of GUI design.
Other than no default encryption for DMs, the client seems solid.

What they did with the filesystem fuckery was arguably as bad and went relatively unnoticed, if you had a low or mid spec Synology NAS you could, back then, create partitions with btrfs filesystem which is very convenient for massive storage as it implements on-the-fly lossless compression, Synology realized that this feature that is part of the kernel was too good to not put it behind a paywall and artificially removed support from it on all devices excluding the most expensive ones, those that got the support crippled couldn't even mount the drives in read-only to recover the data, you had to remove the drives, plug them in a proper PC, boot Linux and then recover data that way.
