One of the narratives about Boeing is that they destroyed the engineering competency in their management culture, and have basically collective forgotten who to build new planes.
It really feels like LLMs could accelerate that same transition in a lot of development shops as the junior pipeline dries up, the senior staff retire, and all that's left are low skilled workers, LLMs, and C-levels floating away on their golden parachutes.

It occurs to me that LLMs + Dunning-Kreuger == total chaos.
Just reading a Register piece about IBM and I picture a whole class of people who don't know what they don't know thinking they can fact check/edit AI slop, managed by a non-technical professional management class who view experienced ICs as overhead (and therefore replaceable by LLMs) and are thus incapable of evaluating if their staff are technically competent.

Giving #ZenBrowser a test drive and it's definitely promising. *Lots* of rough edges (e.g. on my install, switching to the light theme doesn't change over the colours of the context menu items, rendering them virtually unreadable), but as a privacy-centric #Firefox variant with some compelling UX ideas that differentiate it, there's some real potential here!

Wow, had my first really broken #debian testing upgrade in a very long time. Did a regular "apt update && apt upgrade", rebooted, and got what is apparently now the Gnome (systemd?) equivalent of a BSOD: "Oh No! Something has gone wrong..." Useless.
Unable to switch to a VT. Normal process for booting into single user mode didn't work.
Ended up on the grub command-line manually specifying a kernel and initrd. Got to a shell, performed a dist-upgrade, and now we're back in business. FUN! #linux

@npub12ea…afq6 @npub1lkp…u7d2 Hah, 20 years on and I very recently learned a new method for knitting in the round, re-learned Fair Isle, and learned (the hard way) some lessons about developing knitting charts worked in the round. And that's just in the past month. Knitting is a deeeeeeep well.
I hope you keep it up! It can be pretty tough to start but once you've got a cast on, knitting, and purling down, you'll have gotten past the hardest bits.

I think my #reMarkable tablet might be one of my favourite #knitting tools. Setting aside it's use for keeping notes during project construction, sketching and reworking custom charts on this thing is nearly perfect (I'd love a palette of customizable drawing snippets I could drag and drop so I could build and use a standard set of knitting symbols).

So I figured I'd give magic loop #knitting a shot for a sock project I'm working on, thinking it might help with some minor laddering issues I was having with the pattern.
Did a bit of a swatch. Ended up with even worse laddering issues where the stitches are divided.
Also, man, wrangling that cable is not my idea of a good time.
I could keep at it but... ngl, after something like 20 years on dpns I don't see myself becoming a convert...

I will say installing Spruce on the #MiyooA30 is an absolute must given the tuning and additional features it brings over and above the rather middling stock firmware. Fortunately the project maintainers have made that incredibly easy, so it's not much of a burden and absolutely worth the effort.

So I finally finished Sonic CD on my #MiyooA30 and man I love this thing.
Does it get warm while playing? Yup! Is the battery life only 4-5 hours? Yup!
Yet for me it's damn near perfect: great design/form factor (so pocketable!), nice screen, fantastic controls (the d-pad is far superior to the one on my Steam Deck), and all at a very reasonable price.
Next up, S3&K, which I never played!
Though I feel bad for Jedi: Fallen Order, which I've left half played...

So I think I have a really basic contractor litmus test: particularly when you're in the early phase of estimating or spec'ing out a project, do they raise thoughtful concerns or objections, or say they can't do things you're asking? A contractor that says yes to everything should not be trusted.

Man, 30 years later and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is still a banger. While I remembered the game having amazing level design, when you consider the context at the time, what they did in that game was really remarkable. And damn that soundtrack is great!
And it played great on the Miyoo A30 I picked up in a lark. For the price it’s a great little device to carry around!

Mother of god, the gusset increases are done. Finally!
It honestly should be pretty smooth sailing from here. Just a flap, a turn, a pretty straight forward leg and cuff, and then I just have to repeat this exercise a second time, having finally gotten semi-fluent with this stitch pattern and shaken out a couple bugs in the design (this sock rips off a motif from another pattern but incorporates a bunch of my own ideas, so it's been a lot of... let's call it trial and error).

So as a lifelong cyclist but a new race watcher, when I heard about the #TourDeFrance Femme I assumed it was basically the same event. But as always I underestimated the #mysogyny. Not only does the TDFF have fewer stages (8 vs 23), the UCI regulates stage lengths to be shorter than men's stages for, you know, "reasons".
The fact the race exists at all (it started in 2021) is real progress. But man, we still have so much further to go...

As an aside, we had astounding tarp lottery luck this year. On Thursday we drew in group 6 or so. Friday through Sunday we grouped up with 4-5 other folks we knew to draw for two tarps, and got groups 1 and 3 for Friday, 1 and 3 *again* for Saturday, and 2 and 10 for Sunday. I could get used to this (and know full well I shouldn't)!

Gauge swatch pro tip: if your piece is knit in the round, best to do a gauge swatch in the round if size really matters.
For example, if you have a motif that has a pattern row on round one and a knit row on round two, it's tempting to swatch flat, converting that to pattern row/purl row.
But if your knits and purls have a different tension (and they probably do) then your gauge swatch won't represent the final piece.

Gotta admit I'm enjoying the gyrations from #TheEconomist. First, a piece about why Japan's market is crashing. That piece then had to be edited to add a disclaimer at the top admitting that the Nikkei recovered a lot of its losses the very next day. And now they have a piece where, in their words, "we assess what could turn a correction into a crash".
Keep the panic coming, Economist. I'm sure it's driving those clicks.
