Perhaps I'm just less empathetic due to all the "educated" in my life thinking less of me for noticing the scam and dropping out rather than taking loans. Them believing they're smarter than me because I'm a dropout has left me bitter.

Oh, I don't disagree that they overpaid and were under compensated.
But they agreed to pay it. Trying to get other people to pay it for you is asinine. Suggesting you'll refuse to pay it is asinine.
I believe that the last year of compulsory education should be dedicated to real life, including how to evaluate a loan agreement.
Add on facilitating placement in apprenticeships and internships and allow attending them for class credit.

Ah yes, when I think about a system that will ruin the lives of hundreds of millions if it goes wrong, I want to make sure that I compare it to a complex dish that will fail if any small thing goes wrong.
I certainly won't compare the relatively small number of failure points of a souffle to the ever moving parts of millions of people.

I often don't dream in first person either, though mine is more like watching a movie in which I may or may not be present at all.
I've never had anything like what you describe with the stills. I'm also an at will lucid dreamer, so that may be part of the reason.
Hope the violent dreams don't bother you too much.
