There’s a lot of commentary about the film The Idea of You bc Anne Hathaway plays a 40 year old mom who is attractive.
I have not seen the movie, but as a mom of 2 who is also older than Anne Hathaway, the seemingly widespread surprise(?) that women *of a certain age* can still be engaging & lovely seems so silly.

Beatrice ‘Tilly’ Shilling was born in 1909 in Hampshire. She became an aeronautical engineer & daredevil motorcycle racer.
In 1936, Shilling joined The Royal Aircraft Establishment. 5 yrs later, she led a team that designed a device to prevent Merlin plane engines from stalling during flight, which helped the Allies win WWII.

Just 600 years ago, nine species of enormous, flightless birds called moas wandered around New Zealand. Some of these magnificent big birds grew up to 12 feet tall, which would tower over Sesame Street’s most famous resident.
Moas had thrived for millions of years. And suddenly - shortly after humans arrived on the islands - they went extinct.

The scale of what eat (& waste) is massive, which contributes to #ClimateChange & degrades the environment.
In the US, we consume ~280lbs (127 kg) /person/year (not including fish & seafood).
Beef has the most significant environmental impact & Argentinians consume 104lbs (47 kg) of beef/person/year. #food

Short story: I have curly hair. But I straighten it for work to appear “professional.” Or I wear a bun to look “serious.”
These ideas were shaped by social norms + experiences where I’ve been the only woman in the room or dealt w sexual harassment/bias.
But when my 15yo niece visited last week, I marveled at her stunning curls. “It just dries this way,” she said.
And it dawned on me - Wait, mine does too! Or would if I paid less attention to cultural expectations. So I think I’ll do that now.

In the U.S., recent estimates of bird deaths due to:
Cats = 2.4 billion bird deaths
Collisions from building glass = 600 million bird deaths
Land wind turbines = <200,000 bird deaths
Some politicians claim wind turbines “kill all the birds.”
But… they’re not really worried about birds. Rather, they prefer we stick with oil & gas over renewable #energy.
