Working on a paper about Stockholm's earliest suburbs, I learn a neat old surveyor's trick. When surveying islands and shorelines, wait until winter when the water freezes over. Then you can have stationary surveying stations on the ice with unobstructed sightlines between them.
(This is no doubt taught in Land Surveying 101 at technical colleges to this day.)

One breakthrough moment that impressed me: David Wesely has gathered a bunch of players for the first Braunstein and is acting as referee. He is in a small separate room and players come in to interchange information with him. He believes that he owns the game state. But the players start talking to each other out in the other room, coming in to inform him about what they have done without him.

#Movie: Secrets of Blackmoor -- the True History of Dungeons & Dragons (2019). Oral history of the new play styles that David Wesely's and Dave Arneson's circle of wargamers developed in the ten years before #DnD was published. Excellent interview material, mostly rather pointless visuals, annoyingly over-ominous and over-romantic score that clashes with what people are saying. Grade: good!

The people didn't disappear, they were usually ordered by their rulers to switch religious behaviours. In a society with formal schools, the process can be really fast since religion is among other things a societal institution. The Christianisation process is a big field of research all over Europe.

Among #Stockholm's many public statues and #monuments are a few duds, notably the Raoul Wallenberg memorial bronze turds at Nybron. But I want to point out another really bad piece, Christopher Garny's 1994 twin obelisks on Strandvägen. The design, materials and typography here scream cheap and tacky. This thing belongs in the play area next to a highway McDonalds. It was -- fittingly -- sponsored by a king who had an affair with a former member of Army of Lovers.

In Swedish apartment buildings, a kitchen of your own was once a modern convenience. Take-away food was the norm. The word for a take-away kitchen, which had very little in common with modern restaurants, was gårkök (first attested in 1605).
