@nprofile…8nj8 That's the issue though - according to all reports from Ukraine, Russia hasn't stopped firing. (they might have now, but they certainly hadn't when it was announced)
And in combat, you've generally got local comms only. Your section commander is the one with a satellite link or wired telephone system. The squaddie in a trench doesn't generally care about stuff more than a mile away from him, let alone foreign policy actions! The chatter would be overwhelming if they could hear everyone, and there's also the RF direction finding issues where they transmit and get targeted by artillery!

As regards radio comms to Ukraine's troops, they aren't going to hear a message to stop fighting whilst still being shot at. So no, comms isn't instant, due to anti-radiation failures, jamming and drone jammers. And would they believe the news of an immediate ceasefire as shells and drones kept falling?

It used to be the subcontractors pulled in 1.5 to 2.5x the salaried guys, because no pension, no paye, no other deductions, plus "fire at will". Now it seems they get paid *less*, & still get those same "benefits"!

@nprofile…args there was a segment on BBC radio 2 (UK public radio) today with a load of people whining about how they were rubbish at maths, but had to do maths.
Some woman said "Why do I need to know Pythagorus, why can't they teach me useful maths?" and I shook my head... If they can't get you to understand that basic idea from many centuries ago, you've no hope with anything complex enough to be useful.

But yes, a modern hack ~45 minutes from first report to solution/mitigation, but who knows how many devs had their boxes compromised by that malware cURL? And hopefully Google'll fix it properly and permanently this time.

I suspect what actually happened is they cloned Hunter Biden's laptop drive, then popped it into the correct model of laptop, added whatever needed to be added, then an actor dropped it off with the blind repairman. Hence the vast distance away from home "Hunter" went for a basic repair.
