Nora made the decision for me I think.

@nprofile…20qw that’s it! It was pretty straightforward. I used it to connect my ic705 over lan to my mbp, then pass through to wsjt-x. Didn’t fuss with any Mac audio at all from what I remember.
But direct connected via usb, there was no need for anything fancy. It just recognized it.

@nprofile…20qw of cooourse the biggest difference I’d have is I don’t use audio input/output and didn’t use the Audio MIDI Setup app. It’s all through USB with my I-coms and just shows up as “USB audio Codec”
I did have a setup through an audio loopback app called blackhole that let me change settings and pass audio to where I needed. Maybe a route to look at? It creates a virtual audio channel you can configure.

Gunna call today a win. My first “attempt” at CW but really just ended up setting up my radio for it, listening to calls I sometimes understood @ ~15wpm, and trying not to freeze in the 40F weather. Def different listening to real calls. Not the same as practice apps/sites.
Regardless, it was fun despite the cold! Wish I had an indoor shack 😅🥲
