@npub1g0t…tvm4 since the fact that English is the lingua franca due to our former empire and American world hegemony (is that the right word?) you have to clarify it's still the lingua franca but we just don't speak it or if there is none or some other one. Regardless it seems obvious to me that the answer is yes we've benefited.

@npub1g0t…tvm4 comparing to other countries, UK hasn't had a huge regime change for 500 years. We've been a democratic monarchy that long. The ruling class in the UK has in that time been good at adapting just enough to stave off revolution or collapse, but this lot didn't read the cliff notes.

I met a French bloke who said that Macron's government in general and him in particular are scarily "family values" and that he also went to a jesuit school, which are known for their "strict" interpretation of Christianity..? Is it a general government thing then?
