We’re a licensed cannabis nursery in Humboldt County, serving all of Northern California. We provide starter plants to licensed farms and personal use growers.

We are the only cannabis nursery in California and probably the world where you can stroll around outdoors and pick out your own large, seed grown, sun grown plants.   

We're located in the heart of Humboldt County’s back-to-the-land counterculture cannabis community, where it all started.

I'm reading on licensed cannabis forums that the DCC, the Department of Cannabis Control, has been showing up at farms and other businesses threatening huge fines or shutting down businesses over minor infractions, technical violations that don't hurt anyone, things like that. Being very jackbooted about it.
This isn't surprising. They've always taken on the role of cops who hate weed. Legalization in California is just "prohibition by other means", as I've taken to calling it. It was never meant to work.
They can very arbitrarily enforce absurd rules that no legitimate business can comply with and threaten massive fines or shut downs. Over nothing.
Our lovely little nursery should be held up as an example of how to do it right. Instead, we're treated like criminals. I want everyone to grow their own whether you buy plants from us or not, just to get back to the old days where it wasn't all so corporate and bureaucratic and authoritarian.
This is supposed to be fun.

Sticker seen on the sales counter at a local grow shop in southern Humboldt. Translation: do not sell pounds of cannabis for under $500 or the cannabis cultivators of the tri-county region of northwestern California will not be able to survive financially.
Back in the early 20-teens there were similar stickers that said "25 to survive", meaning $2500 per pound. That was something of a ridiculous joke at that time, because prices had already dropped well below $2000/lb on the "traditional" (illegal) market. This was before legalization, but during the time of virtually unregulated medical use.
We have done modestly well this year at the nursery because prices have come up to the point where many of the small farmers who couldn't afford our plants the past two years have come in and bought large quantities.
The extreme bureaucratization of legal cannabis has driven production costs sky high, so $500/lb truly is a rock bottom minimum.

An old hummus container full of #cannabis seeds that we just received. The words "red stem" on the lid is all the information we have. These are old seeds from the original Humboldt traditional growers, saved in someone's drawer since 2001.
We're trying a couple methods to see if they'll germinate: the traditional, easy wet paper towel method; and a sterilized dish of agar.
If they sprout, we'll grow them out as small plants this season, make new seeds and test the flower. If all goes well, we'll offer them for sale as nursery starts next season.

A lot of what we do here at Plant Humboldt has nothing to do with cannabis.
This is our lined, rainwater collection, irrigation pond. It's about 500 ft/sq and 16' at the deepest. Floating in the middle is a salvaged standup paddleboard converted into a floating island.
I set it up last August as an experiment. While the plants are growing (see photos from last year's planting time), they aren't thriving. I need to figure out what's going on.
Once I get it dialed in, the plan is to bolt five or six paddleboards together to make a large habitat island that will also support enough root mass below it that it will reduce the nutrient load in the water. Ideally this will reduce the planktonic algae that gives the water its pea soup color.
In the next post, I'll give a little info on why I think the plants aren't doing so well and ask for advice. Any aquatic #biologists who understand #pond chemistry out there?

We're delivering to Sacramento again this Sunday, July 9th, 3-5pm!
You can order this plant or one of about 40 other seed grown, sun grown varieties like it from our website and we'll deliver them to you in the parking lot of Old Tavern in old town Sacramento.
For Bay Area folks, it's an easy drive on a Sunday afternoon. Plants *must* be preordered online.

WE DELIVER CANNABIS PLANTS!
We're currently experimenting with a new delivery service for home growers in the Bay Area, Sonoma County and Sacramento area.
This Sunday, we'll be delivering plants at The Old Tavern in Sacramento.
How it works:
You *must* pre-order online, since we can only deliver plants for which we have order forms (by law).
Then arrive between 3-5pm this Sunday, June 25th with a valid 21+ ID and payment.
Jameson, the tavern owner, is a great guy and let us use his parking lot address as a delivery location (we're not delivering inside the bar). Maybe hit the bar up for a meal or drink while you're there.
