The City of Ann Arbor routinely runs CCTV cameras through its sewer system. It takes about three years to complete the viewing of the entire network.
This makes it very unlikely that there are any ninja turtles living in our sewer. We would have heard about them 😞 .

After posting this, I had a dream that I found a house haunted with ghosts. It was like my brain was asking "what if your materialism is in conflict with your empiricism?" This was my answer in the dream: I started taking measurements of the ghosts. How many newtons of force can the poltergeist generate?
Like, start understanding the natural laws that govern these ghosts and we can stop calling it supernatural. Nature just works different than we thought. Materialism upheld.

What if mastodon used ipfs for its media? Like, when it sends out posts with images and video, instead of putting an http link, they could put an ipfs link. Receiving servers could choose whether and when to pin it locally. That way, each piece of media has only one name. Seems like it'd better for preservation and availability of the media, and may require fewer copies to be made. A server could only pin it if it's going to display it or something.

Everything on Deep Space Nine breaks down when O'Brien is not on the station. Does that mean he's an exceptionally skilled chief of operations? I submit that it means he is not a good manager. He shouldn't be doing all this stuff himself. The station shouldn't work only because he works a million hours. He should have been building skills and autonomy among his staff.
He's probably a very good engineer. Make him not be the manager, though.

I need clothes that look good at my size, tho. Cuz I lost a bunch of weight before transitioning, then bought a bunch of clothes, then gained the weight back. It was stressful to buy clothes the first time because I don't know how to fashion. I wish I had a fashionable fat mentor who could just boop me a new wardrobe!

I used to work at a medical quality improvement collaborative. They put out a paper that said that there were more heart attacks the week daylight savings time started than there were at other times. That flew out of the journals and into the popular press.
A couple years later, they did a new study and they were like "Well, we looked again with more data and it turns out we were wrong the first time."
The scientific journals wouldn't even print it.
