A GoFundMe page was started on the billionaire mogul's behalf shortly after the court imposed the fine on him for fraudulently inflating the value of his assets in financial documents.

In one 48-hour period last week, Customs and Border Patrol officers thwarted three separate attempts to smuggle fentanyl into the U.S. at the Paso Del Norte Border Crossing in Texas.
None were migrants, despite the narrative being peddled across MAGA world that immigrants bring the deadly drug with them as they pour across a supposedly open border.

A South Dakota bill aimed at feeding hungry school kids was killed by the state House’s education committee by a single vote.
The bill, H.B. 1042, would have directed state funding to provide free lunches for food-insecure kids who currently only get them at a reduced price.
The states currently participating in universal free school meals programs are Massachusetts, California, Colorado, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Vermont and Minnesota.

#Michigan Republicans have filed a lawsuit trying to overturn two major voting rights measures passed by voters, directly overruling the will of their constituents.
Residents voted in 2018 & 2022 to approve constitutional amendments that would dramatically expand voting access, guaranteeing same-day voter registration, nine days of early voting, & absentee voting. Both measures passed with at least 60% support, & the state legislature has since passed laws to implement the new policies.

Joe Manchin & congressional Republicans faced fresh backlash on Tuesday after the U.S. Census Bureau released new data showing that the nation's child poverty rate more than doubled in 2022 compared to the previous year, thanks in large part to the expiration of the boosted Child Tax Credit.
The overall U.S. poverty rate also increased, rising from 7.8% in 2021 to 12.4% last year. More than 37 million people in the U.S. lived in poverty in 2022, the Census Bureau said.

They include an electric vehicle “battery belt” of manufacturing stretching from Michigan to Georgia, semiconductor fabrication plants in Arizona, Texas, Ohio & New York and broadband coming to Appalachia.

#Wisconsin, a state with a roughly 50-50 split between Republican & Democratic voters, has somehow produced gaudy Republican supermajorities in both the state Assembly & Senate. The party currently holds a 64-35 advantage in the Assembly & a 21-11 edge in the Senate.
Wisconsin’s liberals have been held hostage for years by unscrupulous Republicans who couldn’t care less about representative democracy. Wisconsin Republicans aren’t done being shameless partisans.

Some 15 major insurers, including Farmers, have announced their intention to abandon #Florida over the year, with many citing the state's increased vulnerability to extreme weather events.
"Florida has a fraud problem," Charles Nyce, department chair of risk management and insurance at Florida State University said. "It represents 7% of the U.S. homeowners' insurance market, yet Florida represents 75% of all litigation coming out of homeowners."

It’s entirely possible that the killings were the result of religious animus, but given the circumstances, it hardly seems outlandish to wait for investigators to collect evidence and share their findings. At least, that is, unless political grandstanding is deemed the higher priority.
