I think the system is fucked. We only have two viable choices, as designed. No amount of screaming will make third party presidental choices remotely viable except in extraordinary conditions, which do not currently exist. So I will vote for the least harm among the realistic options (Biden, ugh), because I give a shit about the marginalized among us that will be hurt even more by a Trump admin (or whatever other Republican fascist is the candidate, but I'm assuming Trump because this timeline is cursed).

I really want to be able to use Open Street Map on Android as a replacement for Google Maps. But honestly, it's terrible. The UI is entirely unintuitive and I'm constantly switching to other map tools to just set a destination. And about setting a destination... how the fuck you just add an address? Entering it into the destination field just gives me a bunch of very wrong options, I can't actually set the address I entered.

We also have to look at the conditions in congress like you say, and a SCOTUS that is currently hostile to this particular change. Until SCOTUS changes I think the sweeping legal reform many folks want is a waste of time.

As I see it there are two large problems to meaningful gun law changes: a very vocal and motivated public (some of which have no problems becoming violent particularly if their "freedoms" are threatened by evil commies or whatever they're hyped up on), and a right wing SCOTUS that will gut most efforts. One is cultural and shifts slowly, but can shift. The other is also very slow to change, and I don't see much will in elected officials to make drastic changes to SCOTUS size/composition or limiting terms.

@npub1ccn…czwu Yes and no, it really depends, I think that's an overbroad brush. Plenty of other countries have (more limited) gun ownership and don't have our mass murder issues. Lots of us are very responsible gun owners. The sheer numbers plus the toxic US culture seem to be jointly responsible.
The US is that kid that shows they are entirely too immature for the responsibility. I don't really know what viable solution exists though, so I'm no help.

It's hard enough getting basic science taught including evolution. Education is a battlefield of bad ideas here, and in many areas the bad ideas are winning.

@npub1ccn…czwu One of my favorite college freshman classes was Comparative Religion from the philosophy department. I'd definitely like to see a similar class in high school to prepare kids for meeting folks from a diverse range of faiths, or no faiths at all.
