Earlier, a pregnant, unwed Black teenager was arrested for doing what Parks had done. But the NAACP, to which Parks belonged, didn't want to take up that particular case. The organization didn't want the focus to be on the teen's status as an unwed mom. (It was 1955. This mattered.)
That's an example of a strategic tactic to advance, not hamper, civil rights.

I'm a union baby & a civil rights baby.
My parents marched w Dr. King. My Mom's mother warned her that "Martin Luther King is going to get you killed." Coming from MS, she was justifiably frightened. But Mama said she had to do what she had to do.
Given there are so many who've died for Blacks to have the right to vote, voting long has been a sacred act in our family.
So, please, let up with the broad brush.
