I agree whole heartedly. There's efforts in my country to compel churches to allow anyone to be hired, even those who aren't adhering to Christian principles. Firstly, I'm not really sure why such a person would want to work for the church...
But a more interesting point is that political parties are allowed to descriminate between who has the right political views to be employed in the service of the party and who doesn't when hiring. And to my mind, what the church does is no different, you hire for belief in the organisation, so it shouldn't be made an object of politics.
But your quote also mentions the difference between hiring and being a member, and any church that discriminates when people who don't look like everyone else show up is also in the wrong.

I don't think Russia cares... They have more cannon fodder (soldiers) and nuclear weapons than the US. I think Russians have more to win/lose in Ukraine than the Ukrainian population and announcements like that will justify their position and cause them to double down.

Last time that happened to me, I spent five hours waiting for a plane only to be told that the flight was cancelled and come back to the airport in the morning. In my case it's because tensions flared between India and Pakistan and our flight was supposed to go over Pakistan... Is there some kind of international event happening...?

At least the house in Kellyville looks like the buyer could move in tomorrow. There's a YouTube channel where the guy says something like "this is what 6 mlion will buy you in Sydney" then proceeds to show you a house that should be torn down on 300ms squared. 🙄🙄 He does a whole bunch of places just like that, it's kind of wild.

I've often (but not always) had the opposite experience when spending time in developing countries. Life might be less convenient, but the sense of reliance on community and genuine vitality of people has always seemed full of life to me. But perhaps that is the danger of being raised in a Western nation then spending time in such places.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! 🤗I have more than healthy levels of cynicism, but I know how my parents instilled it and I don't think I could do the same to my own kids. That's another part of my problem, no real good role models. I wouldn't know how to support a child's emotional, social, educational and spiritual development and I'm aware that I'm probably too selfish to do it properly.

I've had one experience with someone on nostr that left me on the floor, tightly curled up having a legit panic attack that left me shakey for days. I muted fast and barely think about it now. Yes, the internet is full of unpleasant people who say stuff they wouldn't in real life and for good reason. That's what I came for, I want to sift through all the spicy, uncool, non-PC BS opinions I can and follow the interesting people. I want to have real, moderation free discussions about stuff with people free enough to express their real mind. Anything that jeopardises that is not worth it sometimes uncomfortable stuff happens, like the panic attack, but freedom is worth that much to me...
Also, did you delete the note where you called me a freak? It's gone suddenly... If you did, I'd be sad. I thought it was hilarious. 🤣😏😉 If someone else deleted it I'd be even sadder for the reasons I outlined above, it would mean my nostr is not free.

I've forgotten where I read it but I read an ominous article suggesting that CBDCs and a UBI should be linked to your location and different in each 15 minute city. If that's how things play out you would still need a national CBDC so that cities can transact with each other. Your CBDC will be locational bound but they pay themselves in the national one which can buy and sell local ones all over the country 🤔

Yeah the sudden equity in our place was a surprise brought about by the effects of gov policy surrounding covid. We bought this place 9.5 years ago assuming we'd be here for maybe 20-30 years... That was well before covid and we'll before I started university. You never really know what will happen. It's been a real blessing for us but maybe it will be time to move on soon.

Yup. Then buying a place outright in a few years.. It has more to do with the sudden jump in equity we have in our home and high interest rates. My personal opinion is that there's little growth left in the Aussie capital cities market for the next 15-20 years. So we take our cut now, put it into somewhere with growth, hold on for a few years and buy a place mortgage free. If we can time it.. Of course there's lots of things that can go wrong in there and lots of risk. But we will likely have to move to a new city if I want work in my chosen field too so there's no need to hodl our house.

1. I spose you're right I can only speak to what I've seen and my areas of research. Alot more data exists for societies deemed more important.
2. Maybe.... Maybe not... Depends on whether or not enough polarisation, propoganda, and dehumanisation has occurred to sustain a war that will be well televised and streamed so that all see the consequences and ignore their humanity in spite of it. Current wars are probably just desensising us to scenes from live battle fields.

I like what you had to say but I think there's room for nuance in your first two points.
1. Global media outlets have convinced people they should be scared that the person behind them in the line at the shops is probably a terrorist, thus all government spying is necessary for their safety. Despite increases in spying powers admittedly not foiling any terrorist plots.
2. They've been convinced that any inconvenience created by desiring privacy is not worth it because they are happier living in their own algorithms. What they actually are becoming is more politically polarised with each side dehumanising the other. This more than anything will probably lead to WW3 or the decline of western nations....
