We have front load LG units that have lasted us 5 years so far with no issues. I don’t know the model number, but pretty basic. No wifi, touchscreen, Bluetooth bullshit. I would avoid all that if possible.

I like that it provides an incentive to continue building L2+ solutions. If fees go back down to single digit sat/vB it means there’s less incentive to build. The first 15 years of bitcoin was like the first couple hundred years of America; space was essentially free for anyone to take it. Now we need to figure out how to build with each other.

Yeah sorry, rereading your original post I see you’re more interested in self-custodial #zaps. Unfortunately ecash ain’t it, but I think it’s an improvement over custodial lightning both for privacy and rug risk.
I could see clients running their own mints. Ecash zaps are signed to an individuals epub. Users could then periodically redeem the client ecash at another mint (one that they own or otherwise trust) or sweep into a self-custody lighting wallet. I’m not an expert here either. Lots of exciting tech coming through.

Alby is a custodial wallet so they can very easily see when one npub zaps another npub. Not very private. Also, zaps are usually published as nostr events so that clients can show the zap tally. Again, not private. If you want to send someone BTC privately via nostr, better to DM some ecash (look up eNuts, Minibits apps, both using Cashu protocol). Still custodial but private.
Typical lightning payments (where a user generates an invoice and another user pays it) are pretty good for privacy, especially for the sender (I believe). Others can correct me here.

It seems like #ecash is the ideal way to leave an offline bitcoin tip. Already I can print out the token QR and hand it to someone. Ideally, there would be a way to convert the #cashu token ID to something easily readable and writable like a short string of words. I could then mint ecash, print the words on small cards and then pass them out at restaurants, cafes, etc. The tip could even be simply written on the bottom of the bill. I have no technical understanding of how the token ID is derived, so no idea if this is possible. Just putting it out there. @npub12rv…85vg

That’s an important point. Bitcoin is only valuable so long as it’s moving. Tx fees will need to replace block rewards; this won’t happen if all BTC is locked up in cold storage. We need to focus more effort on developing payment technologies, not storage solutions.

I use Bull Bitcoin but I think it’s only available in Canada. They’re part of the liquid federation. I custody L-BTC in the SideSwap app. I actually haven’t unpegged yet.
