@nprofile…ytgu Prints are something I always use to get a feel for the flow of the final work - I use Freeprints, where you only pay for the postage for a set of 40 6x4 prints, then I pin them to a magnetic white board so I can shuffle them around until I fall on an order I like.

It was -4C under a grey sky when I arrived at the riverbank this morning with my X-T4 and three vintage OM Zuiko lenses.
The 28mm and 50mm mostly stayed in my bag as I used the f3.5 135mm to capture these images of water surging over the falls.
Manually focusing a vintage lens in these conditions wasn't easy but, as I expected, the Zuiko glass produced some nice results.
The lovely colouration in the water is caused by tannins from fallen leaves.

Vintage lenses paired with modern digital cameras can produce some lovely results, as I've discovered with my 50-something year-old Helios 44m F2 and X-T4.
Yes, manual focusing is tricky and, yes, the lens has weak contrast, but I'm really enjoying the way it renders scenes and it seems especially suited to black and white.
It gives a charming, classic feel to images with swirly bokeh.

Did you know that #Scotland has rainforests?
This week I visited the Cowal Peninsula on the west coast to see one of the last few remaining temperate #rainforests, Glenan Wood.
This 146-hectare, community-owned oakwood at Portavadie, on the shores of Loch Fyne, is rich in lichens, mosses and worts due to the mild, wet weather coming in off the Atlantic.

Today I shall mostly be carefully pulling up Himalayan Balsam, a virulent, invasive species, along the burn that runs through my local #wood, along with a small group of #conservation volunteers. I expect to be eaten alive by midges as it is warm and wet in the west of Scotland. Wish me luck. 🙄🦟

A #StreetPhotography exercise in #BlackAndWhite shot on the streets of #Glasgow.
I realise in some countries such images are not allowed by law but in the UK candid photography is allowed in public spaces. The only limitation is an ethical one and I was careful not to mock, humiliate or photograph anyone in distress.

If anyone is interested, this is my Noon pinhole camera, made from walnut I believe. It's beautiful in its simplicity. The 0.29mm pinhole provides an aperture of f207 and the focal length is 60mm. It's multi-format so you can shoot 6x6, 6x9 and 6x12 by moving the interior masks. On top there are a bubble level and seven small black beads showing the angles of view, which give you your only compositional aide. #PinholePhotography #BelieveInFilm

My #PinholePhotography adventure didn't go as well as I was hoping. I got 12 6x6 images from a recently-expired roll of Fujifilm Acros 100 II, but they were pretty disappointing. The second roll, shot in 6x9 format, suffered from heavy light leaks after being too loose on removal - a frequent issue for me and 120 rolls of film 😡 #photography #FilmPhotography

Spent the morning making bird boxes for our local wood, this one is designed specifically for tree creepers, those gorgeous wee guys you see scooting up (but never down!) tree trunks. We'll be installing them next weekend.

A question to photographer friends - does anyone have any tips for producing a digital copy of a publication for sale/download? I'm looking into ways of making my zine The Poetry of Water available in digital format and my first thought was making a PDF of the original document available, but I'm not sure if there are other better ways of doing it. My first photography workshop - for the mental health charity my daughter works for as an arts therapist - was yesterday and after some early nerves I really enjoyed it. It was with a mixed group, some keen photographers, others interested in art generally, and I got some great questions and comments.
We covered the more philosophical aspects of photography - the why rather than the how - and it has made me realise how passionate I am about this artform. I'd love to do more!

Around 400 trees planted today in my local park, a job well done by six of us in lovely crisp sunshine. Among the saplings were alder, birch, rowan, hazel, goat willow and oak. If the forecast 50% die-off rate happens that's still a lot of lovely new trees for future generations to enjoy.

@npub100c…xyfp That's a really thorough and helpful guide to a classic camera. I have the same one as you - with the tan leatherette - only mine came with the name of a previous (original?) owner etched clumsily into the metal at the back. For that reason, it was a bargain price. It does make me wonder who 'Dick Crumk was, and what he captured with this amazing camera!
