Question to my fellow Android developers using Jetpack Compose: What's your take on baseline profiles?
I find them useless. Too much hassle with little to no gain. And the gain is only for the first couple of launches by which the Jit compiler has done the work for you.

@npub1cmg…rzd2 iPhone 15 will launch in a month, but I bet a lot of money on the fact that the changes will be very minor.
Rumors has it that Pro (Max?) would be made from titanium instead of stainless steel, bezels are 30% smaller (Pro already has acceptable small bezels) and the notch would be smaller.
So iPhone 14 Pro is a good choice!

@npub1cmg…rzd2 Your assessment aligns pretty well with my initial assessment after being an Android user for almost all my smartphone age (did I mention Maemo?).
Which iPhone did you btw end up getting?

@npub1cmg…rzd2 Right swipe should work in most apps for back, but it feels a bit different from Android. Just try to grab the page and swipe right and test :)

@npub1cmg…rzd2 then you are happy to hear that iOS 17 has a notification feature that I would hope that Android copies.
You can get a summary of notifications once or twice a day instead of getting them immediately. I really like it. Of course there might be apps where you want to get notifications immediately so you choose which apps opt in to this.

@npub1cmg…rzd2 I don't like the notifications compared to Android. iOS has made them unnecessary complicated but the reason is probably to not distract the user too much with them.
I like Android's notification system but I can understand why iOS does what it does. And you can change the behavior in the settings.

@npub1cmg…rzd2 @npub12ra…x5e7 @npub17kf…hsl3 Softa oli kuralla jo OnePlus 9 Prossa minkä jälkeen mulla meni sukset ristiin OnePlussan kanssa. Sikäli harmi että sitä ennen suosittelin OnePlussaa monille ja itsekin omistin useamman heidän puhelimen.
Oikeastaan asiat alkoi mennä huonompaan suuntaan OnePlus 7 Pron jälkeen.

Tuli myös mieleen että jos joku halua lopettaa instanssin ylläpidon kuten #Mastodofi, niin olisi hyvä jos on joku tällainen kollektiivi joka sitten haluaisi ottaa domainin hallintaansa ja jatkaa sen pyörittämistä. Jos saadaan joku serveri pooli aikaiseksi joita porukka jaksaa ylläpitää.
Ehkä menee jo liian utopistiseksi ja pitkälle ajatukset 😅

Looks like my migration of assets from being hosted locally to Cloudflare R2 is proving to be successful. Still a few images not loading but getting there.

@npub12ra…x5e7 @npub1cmg…rzd2 @npub1qmc…v6gx You have to build your social circle from scratch. And since you know nobody from Mastodon from before, of course it feels empty.
There are good things to algorithms that try to suggest content to you. People want content and not work towards it. Like TikTok.
It’s up to Mastodon to try to live up to people’s expectations or then accept that it’s different and it will not work on mass scale.

@npub12ra…x5e7 @npub1cmg…rzd2 @npub1qmc…v6gx People have a mental model in their head when they come here which they have gotten from Twitter. Because they seek the Twitter experience from here.
When things don’t work as they expect, confusion is totally understandable. For example discovering new people is non existent compared to Twitter. As is when you open a persons profile on an instance; why can’t I see all the message the user has posted?

@npub13y6…dylg At some point many people did run their own SMTP servers :) Luckily nowadays that's not common, because people realised it's hard and requires a lot of work.
I hope the same centralisation will happen in the #fediverse also (isn't that an oxymoron?).

@npub13y6…dylg This is the issue of de-centralized systems that Mastodon users don't want to talk about.
Regular users host their own instances, so suddenly they are also server admins. Who are responsible for potentially many people's online security.
It will be a nightmare going forward when more people flock to Mastodon. Like hackers and criminals.
