Ooooh the mould - when we finally got to build our own, that was the biggest issue in the house. Condensation building up like crazy in the winter, so the house was wet and cold, not just cold. Ruined curtains.
I'm really happy hearing that you're working on it, it's an area that's needed that for decades!

Not exclusive to South Africa, Tasmanian homes seemed to all be like this too, including newly built ones.
I remember my parents once asking to have a double glazed window in the bedrooms since the insulation was horrific and so was the noise reduction, landlord said "sure!", and they freaking stuck a layer of plastic on top of the glass and called it a day :cirno_sip: They gave up after that.
