@npub1j55…tkvt Agreed re switching between Live Preview and Source modes, but Link with Tab has me stymied. I saw the animation in your article, but my three dot menu contents look very different to what's pictured there, and Link with Tab is nowhere to be seen.
Unless it's hiding in plain sight, which wouldn't surprise me in the slightest!

Just going on record to say that plain text accounting is everything I hoped it would be. I'm keeping up to date with data entry, and finally seeing patterns that are helping me plan ahead.
No more nasty subscription surprises! I know what's coming, and anything out of the usual is picked up very quickly and taken care of. Not like that $9.95/month sub I thought I'd cancelled, because it turned out the service wasn't actually valid in my country.

@npub1j55…tkvt Yes! A capture tool is vital. I use Reminders for that, as I can add notes hands free. At the end of the day I clear the inbox, putting things where they need to go.

According to Carl Pullein, all you need for #productivity are a calendar, a task manager, and a notes app. A task manager, he says, must have 3 things: folders, lists, and the ability to put tasks in front of you at a pre-determined time.
So in theory you can use #Obsidian as a task manager, but it’s 2 out of 3 unless you use plugins. I spent years trying to bend Obsidian to my will, but it never fully clicked for tasks. Reminders + paper = my current sweet spot.

OH MY! There's an Obsidian plugin for reading /and editing/ other file extensions!!
Thank you, Falcion, for making the UNITADE plugin. It's so good to be able to edit .txt and .journal files in Obsidian on my phone, knowing they'll be synced and ready for work when I get back to the Terminal on my Mac.

Tiny wins! This evening I, a Terminal noob, created a Markdown file in my Obsidian vault and wrote a Markdown formatted list of the vim commands for basic text editing, all within the Terminal, in Vim mode!
Obsidian and Terminal side by side helped a lot, and reminded me to save regularly, something I need to get (re)used to.
Feeling proud of myself, and enjoying the satisfaction that comes from learning something new.

The idea of personal websites we control has a strong appeal, but it just struck me:
All those itty bitty scattered sites are like gorgeous little shops tucked away in winding alleys that are easy to miss. You have to know where they are before you can visit.
Platforms (Medium, Substack) are like malls; you have one place to go, and it's easy to wander around and see something new.
Each has its pros and cons.
I'm still in favour of the former.

It's easier than ever to watch the box these days, that's for sure. I'll be watching with interest as my youngest two start their own families, because their older sisters have continued the tradition, and don't have any TVs at all in their places.
When they want to watch something it's as a family, on a laptop or via a projector on the wall. Their kids would rather build Lego than watch TV, which I love.

1. Read subfolders
2. Display the complete names of files in the Library (file name on as many lines as it takes to display the name in its entirety)
3. Allows the playing of transcluded audio files within documents
4. iOS
5. App takes less than 1 minute to start up (1/2) 🧵

And *thank you* Mastodon for the reducing count of posts I've made here. I know I've posted well over 1K snippets of wisdom interspersed with fluff, but only posts I've bookmarked or which gain a lot of engagement are sticking around.
If you haven't already, go into your settings and set your posts to auto delete after a certain period of time. You don't really want people or bots scraping together a profile based on what you were doing or thinking on a random Tuesday last year, now, do you?

My Mum is in the market for a new #Windows #laptop. I can't help because I only know Apple.
She's over 80, but knows her way around Word and Publisher, can do email and online shopping. Those are her main needs in a laptop.

I'll be interested to learn if he continues with them at the higher price, or moves to another app. Just imagine if he joined the #Obsidian train! I actually reckon he'd be more of a #Tana guy, if I had to hazard a guess.
