Best cure is prevention imho - we all stop burning fossil fuels.
Having said that, don't underestimate the psychological toll. I had to flee two big bushfires in the 80s and it took nearly 30 years to stop feeling a wave of fear every time I heard sirens.

I'm someone who *must not* catch covid, so I'm still wearing masks when out and staying home a lot. Fortunately I'm an introvert anyway, and I enjoy gardening and managing my cats and chooks.
My only family are nieces who live in another state. So most of my social contact is via social media. I'm more likely to find people with similar interests here on Mastodon than in the "real world". People my age seem to talk endlessly about their grandchildren and their trips in their 4wds and I have neither.

Yes, the British even have trouble understanding each other. Watch any British panel show when there's a variety of regional accents. I watch " Would I Lie to You" and they actually rib each other about their pronunciations.

Well, the English language has a long and complex history, hence it is long and complex. When it's your first language, you don't start out with the expectation that it's going to be in any way logical or consistent and I think that's an advantage.
Not everyone has aptitude for languages, even their own language, and if someone has learned to make themselves understood in English when it's not their first language, they have my respect and admiration.

Yes, I do understand that you're much more vulnerable to the elements than myself, for example. Did I say that I meant Adelaide? We haven't had any summer days in the 40s for the last 3 years. Last summer only two or 3 days higher than 35. I remember bc 35 or above I put on a misting spray for the chooks.
However, the humidity has been off the charts for Adelaide, most days around 50-80% humidity. A normal summer would be 5-10% humidity.
No idea what to expect this summer.
