as poetic as i find frank's use of the term "harmony" to describe local soundness and completeness (cf. local reduction and expansion of proofs) in natural deduction*, i am not sure that it really works as a music metaphor.
maybe i'm missing something? but musical harmony is about deriving "new" sounds from individual sounds, whereas logical harmony is about checking you *can't* do (something like) that with your inference rules.

i think more people should read and cite my paper on my using multiset rewriting (secretly: linear logic) to represent game mechanics, showcasing my programming language ceptre:

you can index into a list with a natural number (sequence of 1s).
you can index into a tree with a binary number (sequence of left/right choices).
you can index into a grid/2D array with a pair of numbers.
what's the general pattern this follows? one-holed contexts/type derivatives/zippers rely on this structure implicitly, but i haven't seen these indexing structures documented independently.

there’s a character in a Dimension 20 season (i won’t say which one in case anyone cares about spoilers) who avoids learning to read, at first just because of failed INT rolls but later by obstinacy: the DM makes them make wisdom saving throws when they see written text in order to *avoid* being able to read it
this feels like a good metaphor for the ADHD infohazard of learning about a topic you know you’re at risk for getting obsessively interested in at the expense of other active projects

my question is whether any of these units have any form of support* for faculty who choose *not* to fund their research through agencies/entities they consider societally *harmful*? a thing i find unsatisfying about the explanations of knot theory that i’ve come across: people will say mathematical knots are “nothing like” real world knots, because mathematical knots have joined ends.
but to imagine actually *constructing* (nontrivial) mathematical knots, you’d need to imagine the ends unjoined, doing some operations that in fact do correspond to real-world knots, then joining the ends.
no one ever talks about constructing them, for some reason?
