Ruining vast expanses of perfectly good Ukrainian farmland in order to grow in rice in semi-arid conditions seems like a very bad idea. The Tartars, who knew how to farm and manage the land are gone, and the Russians who replaced them now have problems with water because of the actions of their own government. But they don't know that. How strange!

@npub1xj8…egqe I read The Handmaid's Tale in the 80s and have not read a book by Margaret Atwood since. It was set in my city, which made it all the more real to me. For years, I could not walk past the gates of Harvard yard without visualizing bodies hanging there. Finally, over the decades, this let up a bit, but now it's back with a vengeance. Gibson is not like that. His writing is distopian, but hopeful.

I liked The Wheel of Time on Amazon, and my favorite BBC mystery series is Vienna Blood. Once I binged on Harold Lloyd movies from the early 20th century - it was great fun! My favorite writer is William Gibson. He's oddly prescient - much of his science fiction seems to become non-fiction. Let me know if you find something good to watch or read!
