I used to be pretty bullish on Bluesky but now the path forward may be a combination of Threads and Mastodon.
Threads for normies who (with good reason) just want social media to provide stability, reach, and moderation. Mastodon for us freaks who (also with good reason) don’t like or trust Meta.

@npub1lsl…9c2x A lot of the acrimony between Bluesky and Mastodon users feels like kids arguing over PlayStation vs. Xbox. I’m not too particular about which technology wins so long as it means getting an open social web. The fact that we’ve got two viable contenders is a rare cause for optimism.

Ask them, why should organizations have their own e-mail servers, when they could just use gmail or other free, third-party platforms for private communications?
1. Greater control over their own communications data.
2. Easier verification of their identities to audiences.
3. Interoperability with other e-mail servers over the internet, even between different servers.
Why shouldn’t our public (social media) communications benefit from these same features?
