As a treat, maybe just once we could have a situation where a company does something awful, and their only real competition in the same space does not, immedately, move for a cash grab option that screws over people in a slightly different and extremely bad way.
Just..how about you take the win of the other company being horrible and not feel the need to instantly hard tack into 'No wait, we can be as bad!'.

@npub1psd…9sr7 I'm kind of glad that Searle's 'chinese room' never got media attention (even though it's a reasonable refutation of the concepts behind them, simply because I can't see that going anywhere but extremely racist.
On a message board I am on, someone excitedly shared that apparently chatGPT can play chess at a high level- for orders of magnitude more cost and resources than actual chess AIs, and not nearly as well. So, uselessly. This seemed an accurate metaphor for the entire concept.

I post about this a while ago, in that I actually used to think that the concept of pressuring doctors and running them ragged was a sort of stressful test to ingrain patterns of thought and high-impact decisions in them deeply while having a safety net of people double checking them
I no longer think that viewpoint has any real basis in reality, if it ever did. It's more like the comfort of paranoia (someone is in charge!)

@npub1gmx…atcq I'm sure it'll be fine, you just need to focus on these series of tasks that need to be done in a highly specific order to get along with this extremely nitpicky rules, and have to be completed at these highly specific times. If you just try hard, I'm absolutely sure that this won't present any problems at all.
It's not like everyone can't just do this if they try harder.

But what they can't do (mechanically) is go back and edit these game dev's released games. They simply don't have that power/ability. So no 'new stuff' can be snuck in, no gleeful edits or anything.
Most of these games are just smaller indies (not all, Hearthstone exists), and saying 'People should not give these small people money because the big corp is fucking with them' seems...off to me.

Respectfully, I think that saying 'never buy these games that were made with unity' or 'never play them' is the correct take here.
Unity is being shitbags. Absolutely nobody is questioning that. Anyone who is making a game in Unity from this point going forward is going to get a bit of an eye aimed at them.
However, most of these games were made before (WELL before, often) this round of shittiness, and this would harm the indie devs more than anything.

On that note, can we possibly work out some sort of scaling punishment for UI designers who randomly just move shit around for no goddamn reason in products that we are already extremely familiar with?
I can understand it (somewhat) if there is a reasonable straightforward path, but just swapping around things that worked just fine via forced updates is absolutely infuriating to me.

Still poly and happy to have guys I date be in relationships but past a point I need downtime and naps! Decades later the idea of 6 dates in a week makes me fatigued just thinking about it!

We don't know how much effort it takes to actually spy on others. We don't know what resources they have. We do know there are many, many, 'useless' people, without a task to do, in that society
Why not set them chasing their own tails? With automation, the actual needed worker count is low (part of the fear premise of the book). Busywork
