I get allergies in the Fall (and the Spring) and a week ago I was sneezing a lot, so when I noticed cheap generic Zyrtec at Aldi I bought some. Took half a tablet before bed a couple nights ago; it didn't help me sleep, but the next day I rode my bike 100 miles and only sneezed once when I got home. Took half a tablet again last night; biked 30 miles in the morning, no sneezing. I'm impressed. Beats Benadryl for allergy symptoms, although not as a sleeping pill.

There's only one repair shop in town and they had no used machines on offer. They mostly repair vacuum cleaners these days and are like a vintage vacuum cleaner museum. Their other repair person, a guy I know who has been working there since barely after high school, quit earlier this year, which explains why no sewing machines right now. There are a few quilt shops locally that will hold machines you buy from them for repair but they don't repair in-house, they wait for the licensed service person to come round and it takes a long time.

My new summer bike shoe is Birkenstock sandals, with both a heel strap and a toe post for security. The soles are stiff, which is ideal for bicycling, and they keep my feet from slopping into an unhealthy position. Never used 'em until this year, but now I'm a convert.

I will be on them for the rest of my life. I spent a few months coming to terms with it emotionally.
Fortunately I am doing well on them, no discernible side effects and it’s been really effective with the Crohn’s. After 3 rounds of hospital administered infusions every 4 weeks, I am now on an injection every 8 weeks which I can do at home.

Oh, and a friend of mine with stage 4 cancer got chemo and developed a life threatening heart condition from it and had to stop immediately. Then he got on immunotherapy and it worked. I seriously expected him to die last year and he didn't, he's actually getting better. If anything kills him it'll be the heart condition caused by the chemo.

I'm glad it was caught early!
I don't have cancer, but for the Crohn's disease I was diagnosed with late last year I got monthly infusions of a monoclonal antibody infusion. I was very freaked out about it, very worried about side effects. I have basically none.
My understanding is nothing is worse than chemo. I would totally take a monoclonal antibody treatment over chemo. But if I ever do get cancer, I will be ineligible for immunotherapy treatments because apparently having an autoimmune disease (Crohn's) disqualifies one. I am glad you have the option of the infusions, as scary as they are. Chemo is a much blunter poison.

I'm not just childfree; I have a genuine aversion to babies and small children. I can tolerate them for short amounts of time only, like maybe 20 minutes assuming their handlers are present and on the job.
Recently however I was in an inescapable social situation with toddlers and small children doing normal small child things like shrieking, crying, falling, putting their hands in everything, depositing drool into communal food dishes, pooping their pants, etc. I wanted to be there because reasons, but I exceeded my exposure limit by about 4 hours.
It really hurt me below the top cognition level. It wore me out and was painful in ways I wanted to just wish away. I sometimes *hate* that I am not normal, so I try to behave as though I am, and every time I pay a price. I feel like I damaged myself, like I experienced *trauma* yesterday, but what kind of defective human is *traumatized* by being around little kids? Everyone loves little kids, everyone finds them cute and charming, what the hell is wrong with me? So in addition to the difficulty I have just being around them too long, I also get to be acutely reminded of what a defective woman I am, and how alien I am to the rest of my species.
I know most Spinsters aren't childfree, but if anyone reading this is genuinely CF, please remind me you exist. I sometimes feel like the only one.

Drill a hole in the denim that's no more than 2 inches deep and slightly tilted upward at a 5-degree angle. The hole should be at a comfortable working height, around 2–4 feet above the ground, and on the south side of the denim.
Place the pointed end of a spile, also known as a spout, into the hole and gently tap it into place with a hammer or rubber mallet until you hear a change in sound.
Insert the hook on the bucket into a hole on the rim of the bucket and attach the lid to the spile by inserting the metal wire into the double holes on the spile.
Check your pails daily and look for signs that the denim is finished sapping. You can boil the sap in a large pot over high heat, then reduce heat to medium high and maintain a low boil for about an hour. Finally, use a metal funnel to pour the hot syrup into clean glass bottles and cap them immediately.
