I'd never think to speak on best solutions for Malaysians, or even Canadians - I don't know enough about their conditions. (I am, no big surprise, a USAian).
But you explicitly said you are advising westerners, and I am giving you my local experience of how spite voting can go very bad given the already broken feedback system.
I agree with 90% of what you said. It's probably my mistake to have not lead with that. My apologies. But please rethink telling US voters to spite vote.

I was addressing the part where you talked about voting. I'm 1000% on board with you on get more active, confront your politicians all year round, don't expect to just vote and then forget about it for four years.
But the hard reality is that that's what so many Americans do, and thinking that Malaysian politics map onto US politics is folly, and spite voting without the other activity goes bad places.

I did that in 2000. Voted Nader. We got GeorgeW and easily 100,000 needlessly dead Iraqis. What fun!
