What drives me nuts are the ones who complain about censorship, yet either lock their videos behind Locals or create their own platforms (looking at you, Trilogy Media). It shows me they're not caring about censorship, they're only caring to squeeze some extra revenue.
I mean, Nostr still probably has a ways to go before it can truly compete with YouTube or TikTok but relatively painless alternatives exist in the form of Odysee or even Rumble (Odysee is better, IMO), and some have reported that they actually make more money on Odysee than YT.
But again, they do it to squeeze more money from their career. I'm not ENTIRELY faulting them for it, it's business, but it does feel like a bit of an excessive move and anyone who knows me knows that I am very vocal about honor and integrity.

I see many here talk about #SimpleX as the best messaging app but I really don't agree. It has a lot of potential but it's slow if you hang out in groups, the battery impact is ABSURD, the message loading process is weird as all getout, it's run by a for-profit company and the way it anonymizes users is still iffy to me.
Again, I see loads of potential but I find myself using Session a LOT more if I want anonymous chats. Aside from the spam in groups a few months ago, it doesn't have those issues I mentioned above.

If you have a a chiropractor near you, definitely check the reviews and pay them a visit. I don't have a lot of trust in the medical system these days but I do visit a chiropractor whenever I feel back pain. Mine helped fix an injury where I apparently damaged a nerve causing crippling pain that I think was sciatica. While I still have minor, surface numbness in a few spots due to the nerve damage, the pain legitimately went away after one visit. Plus, I'd consider chiropractic to be holistic, personally.
That said, if you still have Twitter, I can recommend an account that revolves around body movements to relieve and keep back and body pains away. There's also a chiropractor channel on YouTube that offers some tips for home stretches to help in this regard.

Well, that's a first: Signal was blocking a server my VPN connected to. Messages would not send until I switched servers, but other connections were working just fine.
Please don't tell me Signal's going to start blocking free VPN servers like so many other services. I might be pro-decentralization but Signal is still my preferred messenger because none of the decentralized options can even come close to matching Signal's feature set.

It's funny, when I first started experimenting with Linux, I saw distros like #EndeavourOS and thought, "There's no way I could ever use that. I need full GUI functionality, I don't want to use the terminal more than necessary."
Fast-forwarding to now and I'm genuinely considering flashing it to a laptop and using it on the side. Could I ever see myself using it as my daily driver distro? Definitely not. I do still prefer a GUI overall, it's just a lot quicker and easier to use.
However, as I've studied for my A+, I've grown more and more comfortable with CLIs to the point where I actually get a bit hyped up to use one when I need to run specific commands.

I won't lie, I'm at the point where I think I'm just DONE trying to get into #Bitcoin, #Monero or any other coin.
I love the technology. I think it's phenomenal, it presents some truly incredible future possibilities. I also do think it has the potential to free people from the fiat scam. I wouldn't be on Nostr and continually trying to find ways to get into this space if I didn't believe in it.
However, its number one weakness is KYC/AML. Even to buy small amounts, you have to upload sensitive documents to an exchange with some stupid selfie, and you have absolutely no way of verifying that they are doing their absolute best guarding that data even if I were comfortable with them having it (I'm not). It's not even the concern of them tying my identity to my Bitcoin (though that is still problematic), I just don't have any intentions of trusting a CEX with my sensitive data, I am aware of no-KYC DEXes and Bitcoin ATMs. Neither of them work without major sacrifice, risk or geographic issues.
With DEXes, you're risking your money trading with sellers that might not honor the deal. Sure, you usually have escrows, but then you're trusting that DEX. Ignoring that issue for a moment, whatever DEXes I'm on have offers that usually demand either cash by mail or credit card, ans some of them actually run KYC checks of their own. Cash by mail is a huge risk in this day and age, and I certainly have no plans to send a credit card number to a total stranger (and that's assuming one has a credit card; I don't). Then, once again, ignoring that issue brings up another one: the minimum trade amount. Nine times out of ten, any offers I see on a DEX set like a $150 minimum. Problem is, for people like me who just want to start slowly, to test the waters, this is problematic as well. Plus, it goes back to the high potential for scams, and risking $150 that I'm locking away is not a good risk to take, particularly when you're in a tight financial spot like I am.
Then, you have Bitcoin ATMs. Provided you can find one (only one in my area and not in the best town), you're going to spend truly exorbitant amounts on their fees. The one near me charges 20%. If I wanted to start with, say, $50 to start stacking, they'd take $10 of that. Plus, unlike other industries, I've found that it's very difficult to find reviews on these companies and as such, I have no idea how reputable the company is.
At the end of the day, I seriously don't know how y'all do it. Are you all just complying with the absurd KYC regulations or what? Because every other method I've tried (and believe me, I've tried so much) has fallen through in spectacular fashion. How can Bitcoin truly become the replacement I believe it can be, if we all have to either go along with draconian regulations or make a big financial risk?
Please help me understand, because I really am at the point where I'm thinking I'm done trying.

Amethyst has way more features, such as a video scrolling feed (think TikTok without the brain rot) or note groups that help you find popular notes, things you missed, notes in a particular subject, etc. It also has a much more pleasant GUI, both aesthetically and practically.

At this point, the only reason I still have any big tech products or services is because of the networks I've built there. A lot of family refuse to communicate outside of Facebook or SMS. I also have a very pleasant community of people I talk to on Twitter. However, I take every opportunity to talk about freedom tech and the dangers of big tech's influence. I also tend to strongly delay my replies on Facebook, in an attempt to get family to move over to MeWe (which is basically a partially decentralized, privacy-friendly FB alt).

Well, the thing about the number is that I only give that out to friends and family that I know won't bug me all the time 🤷‍♂️😂 But also, in a way, I would say that using Messenger is definitely a *little* bit more secure than using SMS, considering the fact that SMS is completely unencrypted, whereas Messenger does encrypt in transit and is now partially end-to-end encrypted.
It's not ideal either way, but unlike a criminal tapping a cell tower, Meta can only do so much with my data in a legal way. So yeah, at the end of the day, if I can get a person using Signal instead of Meta's chat apps, that's great, but I will still take WhatsApp or Messenger over SMS.

I think he would be, if not for the fact that he's the richest man alive and has virtually unlimited resources (as well as a growing friendship with the potential next president of the United States). Pavel Durov, he is wealthy, but nowhere near as wealthy as Elon. Plus, Elon's business ventures span more industries than Pavel's. That means that arresting him would cause more of an economic reaction than arresting a man who runs a chat app.
Now, if we're talking cause, it's definitely 100% political. The fact that Discord and Facebook propagate far more illegal materials than Telegram, yet neither company is in legal trouble over it, tells you all you need to know. Telegram may not be the best app for privacy, but they didn't really censor political speech, and I think that is the number one cause for Durov's arrest.

Yeah, WhatsApp isn't great, but I understand why people use it. I just try to convince people who do use it that Signal has the feature set that they're looking for with much better security and they don't have to tie it to their Meta account. It's still better than people using SMS or even Facebook Messenger, though. Unfortunately, a lot of people that I know use both of those no matter how hard I try to get them to join Signal.

It's more decentralized and anonymized than Signal, but it's not run by a non-profit, and it's definitely not nearly as tested as Signal. Honestly, there's not a whole lot that will get me to move away from Signal as my main encrypted messenger, but I do like to experiment with Session and SimpleX for a little bit of anonymous chatting.
I'd say it's a decent option if your threat model requires anonymity moreso than security and confidentiality. Signal still has the most proven track record and strongest encryption standards so far.

I like the concepts, but the way that the messages load is irritating if you're in more than two or three groups. I also don't know how much I trust the way they anonymize users beyond the pseudonym feature. Comparing to Session's onion routing, it just feels a little bit less anonymous and secure. That said, I haven't looked real hard into it and I'm not an expert anyways.

If it's not apparent by my posts, I'm definitely far from an expert on these things. I just go by the research I find and, well, it's difficult to find good research when there are genuine cultish resources on both sides. It's part of why I aim to use both if I ever find a way to obtain them without KYC (all of the no-KYC methods I've looked into seem to fall through for me). I also do plan to look into XMR mining to see if that's a possible option for me.

Well, I'm talking more about the sheer number of nodes Bitcoin has. So many nodes, thus so decentralized that it's absolutely impossible to shut down. Monero could get to that point at some time down the road, though, to be completely fair. I just don't personally see that happening any time soon, considering the delistings and poor value performance.

That's a really good question. For me, Bitcoin is the one because of how it's thoroughly decentralized and has a robust network alongside the value that BTC holds. It's absolutely not a maxi thing for me, I just feel it makes more sense to use both BTC and XMR for different use cases.

I really wish I bought early, not just because of the massive increase in value, but because KYC was significantly less of an issue early on. Quick question. I understand using SimpleX and Session because those are decentralized and private options that also offer censorship resistance. However, Threema is a paid app, and as far as I know, it isn't decentralized, is it?
Personally, I use Signal for most things, although I find myself using Matrix (through Element) for decentralized communities, as well as Session if I want to engage in anonymous discussions. I've recently been exploring SimpleX; I like the concept but I have some concerns over ownership as well as how they conduct their anonymity. Oh, and the notification spam is problematic so I couldn't see myself using it unless I'm only talking in a couple groups.

Tor is useful if you need anonymity but the moment you use it to log into an account you've previously used on the surface web, you lose that anonymity. Basically, use a VPN for your surface web stuff and use Tor for sensitive searches and anonymous accounts (but ONLY log into those accounts via Tor).

It's good to have one but be sure to know what their limitations are. They're not technically a privacy tool and there are really only a handful of trustworthy ones like Proton, Mullvad, IVPN. Even with those, don't act like they'll protect you or make you anonymous. Essentially, they reduce ISP spying (though ISPs can still do deep packet inspection and encrypted DNS already reduces the spying), allow you to bypass geoblocking, and they hide your IP from the sites you visit.
If you're doing anything in a country where your freedom could be at risk (such as the UK with their war on memes), a VPN will not protect you, it won't make you anonymous. There's a lot of effort that goes into privacy and anonymity if you have a higher threat model.

I get the logic, that's not the problem. Saving money is generally better than spending. That's just wise personal finance skills. However, money is money and if you never use it to buy things, how is it any better than an incredibly expensive collection of cryptographic data? It's so difficult. I'm at the point where I just do my best to minimize it and hope for the best. I do believe tea can negate some of it, though, since tea has health benefits that fight some of the issues seed oils present.

My main issue with TikTok is that it's designed to be predatory and atrocious for privacy, while significantly reducing the common person's attention span. Well, that and the sheer amount of single-brain-cell dolts it has created.
Short-form video in and of itself is completely fine by me. I just despise TikTok's guts in particular.

Sarcasm aside, even if I don't have any other than a few sats from zaps, I love the concept of decentralized, anti-inflationary, hard money that offers us a way to at least somewhat resist the stupidity of the fiat system. I don't subscribe to the maxi belief that it fixes absolutely everything wrong with the world but it's a very strong start.

To be fair, I think it's good that it's not an "escape Elon" destination. Mastodon took that approach when Elon bought Twitter and thus all the hardcore political content is there, whereas Nostr has a much better community focused more on life and self-improvement.

Every day, I'm using #Nostr more than #Mastodon/the Fediverse. Don't get me wrong, I really like the technology of the Fediverse and definitely think it has a place, but I'm just getting so sick of the toxic political garbage over there. All of that toxicity went to Mastodon when Elon bought #Twitter and it has made the last month or so completely unbearable, and I suspect it will only get worse leading up to the election.
It's wild when Twitter offers better, more productive discussions than the platform that the allegedly "enlightened side" fled to. I have no issues with different political opinions; if they can respect me, I'll respect them no matter how much I disagree (though I am quite firm on some moral issues). However, if you're anywhere even remotely right-leaning, you'll run into all sorts of people who are just waiting for the opportunity to waste time with antagonistic, truly hate-filled nonsense.
Meanwhile, Nostr's community seems to be focused on improvement: of technology, of the world, of the self.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a traditionalist who is massively against big government and would be considered right-wing. I get into political debates sometimes in my personal life. However, in the real world, you can end the discussion, walk away and do something else. Online, it's incredibly draining seeing that crap everywhere, especially when I see ignorance or comments that I STRONGLY disagree with.
Using Nostr (and my home/private life social network, MeWe) is a nice digital oasis to rest and recharge in before heading back out into the desert of AI, attention-hog influencers and genuinely hateful individuals.

In addition to what has been said, the main reason why iOS is problematic is because it's a proprietary (closed source) walled garden. You're only allowed to do and use what Apple approves of.
Meanwhile, Android is open source, it lets you sideload apps whether they are or aren't on Google Play, and you can even sideload alternative app stores. From F-Droid which is a massive repository of great pro-freedom open source software, to F-Droid forks with more built-in repos, to Obtainium which lets you grab apps directly from their GitHub repository, to even a private front end for Google Play, you're able to do all of that with Android but not with iOS.
You can even get apps like Shizuku to simulate root access and run other apps on top of it such as Canta, which lets you uninstall any app or service you want to, even if they're protected by the OEM. I stripped almost every bit of Google & Samsung spyware bloat using this method, replacing any necessary apps with FOSS alternatives. Shoot, you can even install completely custom versions of Android if you want, though not every phone is capable of that (thus why I went the Shizuku/Canta route).
At the end of the day, use what you like. I'm not going to shame you for using/liking iOS but Android offers way more freedom to use and own your device. Ironic, considering who Google is, but it's true. In my opinion, that freedom (including the ability to lock down your privacy) makes Android objectively superior. Just figured I'd chime in!

My main concern is that unless you use a provider like Tracfone which requires no KYC to use, you're still going to have to provide info. Just like KYC destroys Bitcoin's privacy, it destroys privacy with a cellular plan. As for providers like Tracfone, I have no idea if they'd support Graphene.

Dress clothes are the worst. Went a majority of my life without them but had to wear a suit as best man at a wedding. The clothes sucked, they were insanely uncomfortable and I legit had blisters on my heels for several weeks after because of the dress shoes.
I don't know how people wear that stuff on a daily basis. I'd go insane.

My philosophy is this: if you can't get all the day's work done in the day, that's the teacher's fault for poor scheduling. Homework should only be studying for tests or maybe an occasional reinforcement worksheet if it's a tough lesson.
Then again, I have no intentions to ever put my children in public schools so they won't have to worry about that themselves.
