if the majority of users were as ready to pull out their wallets to support the free software they use as they are to be ethically purist about the same software, open source would undoubtedly have far fewer funding problems.
I want the perfect browser? Maybe I can start by donating €1 a month to the one I'm using and getting involved in its community to contribute before running from fork to fork at the slightest project failure.

When I landed on Mastodon, I didn't share other people's messages so much. Coming from Twitter, I was used to curate my own content and be restrictive about sharing, to avoid flooding my followers.
The absence of algorithm here led me to revise this "editorial approach" - now I share a lot more. I do hope that a future Masto update will bring a way to isolate my own posts, but in the meantime, sharing is the most powerful tool I have to add visibility to messages and people.

Learning Nix is a rough but pretty efficient way to learn about building and running software, dependencies and packaging.
Rough, cause if you don't know much about it before you start using #Nix or #NixOS, it's pretty overwhelming - like in "I get it, there are different ways to do the same thing, that's cool and all, but what if I don't have enough experience to make an informed choice?" - but efficient if you stick to (& dedicate enough time to) it, cause you'll HAVE to learn those.

Marksman is a program that allow various text editors to improve the #Markdown experience: "it provides completion, goto definition, find references, rename refactoring, diagnostics, and more".

I I installed Marksman under :nixos: (it's in nixpkgs). Kate detected it right away without needing to disconnect & reconnect the user session.

Meta's recent statements herald a deleterious shift in their products towards even greater toxicity and harassment of minorities - they now unabashedly assume to follow far-right politics.
