2 things:
1) Profanity AND hateful speech, or are those misguidedly coupled together as 1 flag? I wouldn't consider sarcasm and profanity the same category as hate speech against someone's intrinsic quality or group membership. I only spoke on their actions / provided communication.
It's equivalent in language math to "you (the data analysis challenged commenter) is saying delusional things". If that would not be flagged as hate speech then this isn't either.
The main functional issue would be I can see someone wanting profanity (as there is no ethical issue with it) shown but to hide hate speech.
2) Regardless I'm not sure if this post is the product of utilizing moderation features of a client I can't use on Android, or it's being flagged for removal on a relay or something. Regardless I'd be happy to just remove it if that's actually what you want. I can't tell. Just say the word if that's your desire

This is the right choice. I don't generally have any response to self-portraits on social media regardless, but to the sentiment here I raise my glass. You look beautiful and many people have much less societally championed features than you. My girlfriend is atypical of many of these standards but she is outrageously gorgeous. People need to do all they can to focus on the voices of individuals instead of parrot squawks from their chosen or inherited groups. It will help us all waste less of our depressingly limited time here.

Can anyone here get me in the loop on what the current "hot" proposals or projects related to login/onboarding experience are? I'm taking mainly about things taking about targeting noob/non-tech. Nsecbunker seems cool but it seems to add not reduce confusion for a random new user but I can see how it could be packaged in a way that didn't.
Are there people or NIPs to follow where discussion is happening?
I'm wondering about anything related to fixing problems around people having their nsecs compromised, but there being no traditional password change type thing. Or just kidding their nsecs even. Also just ways to increase friendliness or presentation to the masses of idiots called humans. Really anything remotely related to that topic. Interested in people's ideas just because I find it an interesting challenge.

This is an overbearing opinion. He's blending specific implementations based on corporate greed with multiple design styles that 1. Are not the same 2. Do not buy themselves opress.
If you had a clean Scandinavian minimalist design that was very abstracted/far from handmade/craft, and every person had an a decent sized personal office that closed (with blinds). People would not feel oppressed. They would decorate with bits if themselves or some people would keep it clear because they prefer clean visuals without distraction. Also you can plug in a fucking incandescent lamp for other lighting while still having the same design. A lot of people like working in light cose to daylight in kelvin. Not me but I know plenty.
This is just like someone thinking, oh throwing the baseball fast is better, so shooting it out of a potato gun is better for the game of baseball. He's just running with it far beyond logic. And he's forgetting that handmade can be just as oppressive with propaganda and forcing a strong specific style on people to say think and be this way or else.
You people thrive on oversimplified sensationalism.

I started a community in the current implementation (librearts) so I'm familiar, but people are working on community specific relays. These would let relay owners moderate their own relays more completely. The makers of nostr all have talked about smaller vs bigger relays being the focus. They don't want a system with just a couple relays that everyone's on because it hurts the decentralization and sustainability, but what that means in a global view is that you're not sure who's going to see what you post similar to the issue with mastodon, and that problem extends to the current implementation of communities. For global view this is less of a big deal since you are generally just posting very general things out to anyone following, but for communities, you want to rely in the fact that the whole community can see it including strangers who don't grow you. Community relays fix this issue. People subscribe to relays/communities that they want that can then be smaller relays (or groups of relays for redundancy), but can also be sure that everyone in that community will see the post. And the reason we would want an app is to create the best first experience where you are seeing things you like, and also it would be needed because it's a totally different app concept to the Twitter-replacement app that we're on now. This would be an app more akin to Reddit or Lemmy but with proper architecture where each community can govern itself, be a paid relay, or complete with another community. And an app would just help people sign up and pick topics/communities they like, and then they would immediate have a main feed of strangers posting about things they actually are interested in. The communities could assist choose to be secret and not report to any people running a directory/app. It solves the problem of too big relays, helps the problem of discovering things you like from people you don't even know to look up, and makes them onboarding process easy to get an app tailored to your interests.

Seeing everything built on nostr is bittersweet: social, communities, survey forms, wikis, journal apps, etc. Finally a protocol that is simple and open enough to see this kind of community input and software growth. But then the community has no urgency to create a more eclectic experience outside of circle jerking Bitcoin. It's very 1 note. Community specific relays and apps that utilize selecting them during user onboarding is one possible way to correct the course.

I've been hearing murmurs about folks working on community specific relays (or a group of relays for a community). I think it would have the biggest impact so far on user base adoption outside of the bitcoin religion.
It sounds like Stuart from satellite.earth might be working on something, and also the mostr dev was talking about "Ditto" which I think might intersect with the idea.
It would be interesting to see on the client side how a GUI might look like to switch between relays like one can switch through subreddits in a reddit app, or create custom named relay groups you can switch through in the same way.
This would also decentivize people from all being on the same few big relays.
Who is currently working on projects related to this that I can follow?

I was referring to the bridge, not xmpp or sip. Because phone numbers are still desired for the reasons I originally posted, a bridge only highlights why most people are still needing to have phone numbers to function in this world. It's about "availability* to more people's situations, aptitudes, services, and locations. And it's about both cultural and institutional *consensus* that the phone numbers are needed to participate with they who run the shit. To be clear, I do not want the status quo, but it's a narrow view for , well yeah there are so many things that could replace phone numbers. I mean if we are talking about this kind of power, I would ask why did people use .mps when .ogg or .flac were superior and didn't cost anything to build for? On a technical merits only level: easy, there is no good reason. But the history, spread, funding, business, power, profit, behind how .mp3 remained relevant so long is what is more discussion worthy. Same thing here. Consensus & availability are the two reasons. People want a defacto way to verbally connect to someone and write it on their skin or a napkin and they can assume someone will have that and it can be used to contact them using several form factors. There's also the fact that there's infrastructure to communicate without a smartphone our computer available. Institutions require that people have them to be successful. Job interviews, official business, etc. Not everyone has the privilege of interacting in a digital only world. A skilled tradesman would have constant trouble interfacing with their customers. If a decentralized alternative worked through the phone lines, it would be pretty sweet, or there existed a way to take over control of phone numbers from those entities. I wish we could make them "handles" for another system like keys or dids.

Most of you disagree because you're the problem lol. People think it's not a problem because later on it will be big enough and impressive enough that the bitcoin single focus will not be around. However, I've not seen any sign of this, especially since you'll see things on a lot of nostr services like "by bitcoiners for bitcoiners" and other stuff. Note that other protocols that focus on a *eclectic user-bases* are going to find success even if the tech is less ideal. And after a certain point, nostr will just permanently branded as a bitcoiner only environment. The other protocols will also have time to adjust and get better too, but they'll *already* have a diverse user group.
And that might be a good goal for nostr if that's the goal, but it's not the goal i hear from most nostr devs. If the goal is to revolutionize connecting applications/users, you need to *want* other people here as a top priority. On a positive note, I heard Stuart of Satellite.earth was working on communities based around relays. I think an app based on discovering relay communities could be a big step forward in preventing the softening/drying out everyone's cult-averse genitals who give nostr a test run. It's a shame because the protocol has got to be the closest to the right design ever created.

I set up this community so people can share news, art, ideas, etc about free open source art and authoring tools.
I'm sure there will be individual communities for many of these softwares but since nostr is new I figured it's nice to start with a wider net. Even in the living term I like the idea of this community as often they will be used together.

Super bummed about Rick Froberg passing away. As a side note Hot Snakes is one of the few bands to put out an album after a crazy long hiatus, after they got old, and it was as good as any other record. Always liked all his projects. Dude lived with full kreative kontrol.

Nostr is a better architecture than activity pub, but my 2 cents on improvements. It needs to have a user friendly authentication story that accounts for the reality that pkeys will be compromised or lost. Also, i think nips should have an established friendly term that is encouraged to use instead of the nip number for user facing clients.
