I'll think about it. I have the same problem for Switzerland, and the reason why it isn't there is that I couldn't decide which language to use there. After some comments from some Swiss users, I decided I'll use English.

Dear friends of the BSD Cafe,
As 2024 comes to an end, it’s time to reflect on what we’ve built together during the first full year of life for BSD Cafe. Launched on 20 July 2023, this project has grown far beyond what I could have imagined. While I haven’t tracked full uptime data, I can confidently say that the downtime was less than 30 minutes overall - even though the main VM hosting our services moved multiple times (including a switch from a Proxmox hypervisor to bhyve on FreeBSD, for the sake of alignment with our mission). In a world filled with over-engineered HA systems, we’ve outperformed many “big-name” cloud providers. Not bad for a community project, right?
For me, this has been an incredible journey. The users here are not just participants - they’re collaborators, and their positivity has been inspiring. The content shared and created at BSD Cafe has been valuable not only to the BSD community but beyond. What truly sets BSD Cafe apart is the openness for dialogue and exchange. Whether it’s social media posts, Matrix discussions, repositories in our brew, or RSS feeds, people seem to genuinely appreciate what we create and the conversations we foster.
BSD Cafe is a journey - one that grows, evolves, and continues. Our goal isn’t endless growth (we’re a community, not a business) but rather to maintain a welcoming, inclusive space where everyone feels a sense of positivity and belonging. For me, opening any service with “bsd.cafe” in the domain brings joy and pride. That’s the spirit I’ve tried to convey, and I hope it resonates with all of you, whether you’re active BSD Cafe users or friends of the community.
Promoting self-hosting and #OwnYourData has, as a side effect, inspired some users to “go solo” with their own setups. But even then, they remain part of BSD Cafe - in spirit, in purpose, and in connection.

I've cancelled my test #Contabo VM. I've used their VMs in the past, and they've been ok. Then, one of the (many) VMs I had there became unreachable. Support didn't respond at all. It came back after 4 days and they gave no reason. Just "All we will say is that now it's back."
I cancelled all of them but, after years, I decided to try them again. Activation has been quick, but the performance has been worse than my Raspberry PI Zero W. Their support said they're aware there are performance problems on that hosts. After some days, I asked the ETA for fixing this issue - no ETA.
After 14 days and no performance increase, I've cancelled it.
I'm sorry, but this is unacceptable.

I woke up this morning:
- I have a bit of a headache
- The BSD Cafe snac instance had crashed, so it was down - I modified the rc.d script to run under daemon(8) to restart automatically (and I sent a PR to include it)
- a critical virtualized Windows server for a client was in total crash (resolved by doing a stop/start from the Proxmox console, but this will also move to bhyve soon)
- I spilled half of my coffee on the floor - and being an espresso, I have very little left
I’m waiting for the locusts...

Today, a chapter of my life has closed. Opened at the end of March and closed, as planned, today. I reflect on everything that has happened in these months, both positive (a lot) and a bit negative. So much more has happened during this period than in years before. And this, as always, shows that life is a continuous surprise.
The future is full of surprises, projects, and ideas. However, the chapter that has closed today, though it ended due to 'natural exhaustion and as anticipated from the beginning,' will leave a lasting memory for the rest of my life.

Some years ago, a client of mine asked me to create a VPS for a website they were going to host.
As per their request, I set up an Ubuntu VPS with Nginx, PHP, MySQL, Redis, etc. Its job was to support a low-traffic, local website built with Laravel.
I've since lost touch with the client, but the website is still up and running (the VPS is up to date, though Laravel might be slightly behind - I'm not managing it).
This morning, my client (a good person with solid tech skills) told me that their client will be migrating the website to another provider, so they asked for the server specifications. I replied with the details, explaining that it's a simple and stable setup, and that the requirements are low since they only get around 50 visits per day. Easy peasy.
A few hours later, the client came back saying they had been asked for more details, as everything is required for the new setup - even though it's just a basic migration.
Here's what they sent me (copy-pasting the request):
Project Documentation & Codebase
• Source Code Repository Access (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket)
• Code Documentation (README files, API documentation, deployment guides)
• Dependency Management (package lists like package.json, requirements.txt, or equivalent)
Project Accounts & Credentials
• Server/Hosting Login (AWS, Azure, DigitalOcean, etc.)
• Database Access (connection strings, admin credentials)
• CI/CD Tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI)
• Third-party APIs (API keys, access tokens)
• Domain & DNS Management (Cloudflare, GoDaddy)
Development Environment Setup
• Development Environment Configuration Files (.env files or config scripts)
• Instructions for Local Setup (required tools, frameworks, or virtual environments)
• System Architecture Diagrams
When we explained that we didn’t use most of those things (CI/CD tools - they're not needed here, and "system architecture diagrams" don’t really make sense), they couldn't believe it.
I'm at a loss for words.
Why are we overcomplicating things like this?
It’s just a simple Laravel website. Install Nginx, MySQL, PHP, Redis, and you're good to go.
Do we really need all of this for a low-traffic, small website?
We're unnecessarily overcomplicating things. Sure, this stuff makes sense for more complex setups - but not this one.
By overcomplicating the setup with unnecessary tools and processes, we're not only adding complexity but also consuming more resources - more servers, more power, more energy. Keeping things simple isn’t just practical, it's also more sustainable.

Yesterday, I was asked to create a Docker server for specific software distributed as a Docker Compose file. I created an Alpine Linux VM, copied the Compose file, and ran it. Everything is working perfectly.
This morning, the person who provided the file asked me about the Ubuntu version of the VM. When I replied that it's an Alpine Linux host, they insisted that Alpine Linux doesn't work because "Docker works properly only on Ubuntu." I tried to explain that it doesn't matter, as the Compose file doesn't require any Ubuntu-specific commands (it's just pulling images from Docker Hub), but they are insisting that I need to install Ubuntu or they won't proceed with the operations.
I'm so disheartened to see such closed-mindedness.
