I grew up with BBSs, forums and small internet. usenet, fidonet, etc. I've worked at early 2000 dot-coms, and have been a SRE & SWE for 8 years at the biggest social media site. I've loved all of that work, but I miss small internet. I love small internet.

I want this instance to be a fast, reliable, and safe space for its users. I want mods who care. I want users who want to be here and engaged.

When do people turn on their heating? Here in the #sfba I usually wait until close to the end of November — when it’s hovering around 10C in my place.
I try to push it later and later but I always cave in the end :)

@npub1fe4…sgyk oh I’m sorry to hear that. I saw it in theatres and really enjoyed it. I felt like it was a decent recreation of what the original movie accomplished. But I’m biased.. I’m a big fan of the franchise so I’m always going to enjoy an alien movie 👽

I have sunk so much money into audible books. I’m considering buying an old android phone, and setting it up to play entire books while I record its output on my computer.
The only issue that I see is then going and splitting those giant files into chapters.
Does anyone have any recommendations for creating personal archives of walled content like this?

I have no idea what I'll do with it, but I'm excited to receive my #flipperzero tomorrow 🐬
I've been googling things to do with it, but I'm thinking that I'll just keep it around and allow ideas to naturally surface. I might purchase the dev board later and see what I can hack together with it.

@npub1hjw…mghf I haven't seen any guides, but I presume it should be as easy as using `s3cmd sync` to clone all of the files to your local machine, and then unset the `CDN_HOST` env variable per https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/optional/object-storage/ to trigger puma to reference the local URI

#[0] claiming monthly inactive users aren’t logging in due to lack of search is a pretty bold claim. The truth is that short of a comprehensive exit survey, we don’t know their reasons for lack of engagement on that instance.
