A lot of this "doomerism" comes from those who aren't even US citizens — especially with Russia on the move. In Russia the system is broken and inefficient — it doesn't move slowly towards the goal, it's built around these narrow windows of opportunities. Especially with KGB-man at the helm — he doesn't know shit about military or economy, his whole life is a sequence of "special operations" — the whole strategy is built around it, even though there is no real long-term strategy

But I don't think any analogies would help solve the international conflicts once and for all — it might seem like leaving everyone to their own devices is a good idea, but in reality, conflicts don't get resolved in a good-mannered fist-fight, they tend to escalate and spread like wildfire. Taking a side early on might help minimise expenses resolving them later. It doesn't always work of course and it still becomes a clusterfuck.

When it's indeed a bystander and a well-agreed upon fist fight — no one does, but what if one of the participants never agreed to this fight, but was attacked stealthily with a knife, got wounded and now requests a gun from someone, whom he considers friendly — to fight back and to feel safe in the future?

У меня ничего не тормозило кстати — точнее всё работало примерно одинаково. У меня всё началось чуть раньше, и никаких WinModem'ов и прочего несовместимого оборудования не было, мне ещё в конце 90-ых друг дал вот такой Red Hat: https://social.librem.one/@m0xee/108564028487859961
Тоже прилагался к какому-то… журналу что ли. Вообще купить книгу или журнал ради того, чтобы просто получить в комплекте более свежий дистрибутив — это прямо моя тема в то время 😂

В 2001-ом ещё не было Fedora, это мог быть просто Red Hat Linux, но не RHEL (которого тоже не было), Mandrake или местный Black Cat Linux. У меня до сих пор есть Red Hat 6.2 который прилагался к какой-то книге — и это прямо эталон для Red Hat, вообще никаких проблем с системой не было. А в седьмой версии произошло прямо резкое скатывание и небезызвестный gcc 2.96 — я перешёл на Debian.

Пока я не попал в Феди, я даже не представлял, что это может быть такой проблемой!
У меня буквально за недели отрастает так, что я становлюсь похожим на стереотипного бездомного из мемов.
Помню как-то несколько месяцев жил за городом и не брился — вот там такая борода была, что хоть птиц заводи — уже из мемов про марксистов 😂

Is there a point though? Double Ratchet is implemented in Matrix as well, but in addition to it, and unlike Signal, it's decentralized and you can self-host it, so there is lower probability that sever itself can get compromised.

Sorry if it's a off-topic, but is there a fork of ring crate that works on PowerPC? Some time ago I've managed to hack the IBM's one — the one that adds support for Little-Endian PowerPC64, so it can be built on 32-bit PowerPC, but it was still failing most tests and was unusable. Are there any others?
