Had the best week relaxing on the beach with my 2 sons. It was great to see my 26 year old bond with his 15 year old little brother on a different level. The oldest is an engineer and the youngest is a computer geek. The beach conversation between them was a lot about bitcoin and freedom.

We had our monthly Dickson County, Tennessee Homesteaders Alliance meeting yesterday. We learned about homestead communications for everyday situations from Evan Dixon of Radio Made Easy. We even had John and Amanda Willis from Special Operations Equipment in attendance. 😊
My goal is to build the community around me into a strong, resilient, self reliant and well defended area. Some are different levels than others and that’s ok. We are meeting folks where they are and bringing them in according to their comfort level. 😊

I believe it has been 8 years since we put in these first little raised beds, then we got backyard chickens, then we added blueberries and fruit trees and compost bins. I got 86 quart jars of pickles from this tiny backyard garden one summer.
In Oct of 2020, I had listened to Jack say “get out, get out get out!!”until I was hearing it in my sleep and Nicole saying “build the life you choose on your terms” and John saying “quit being a wuss and put in the hard work” sooooooo ..we traded off that subdivision home for a pretty decrepit and forgotten farm in the country. It needed SO MUCH WORK. That being said , there is not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for this farm. There’s not a season, not even a single day that I don’t love it here. I’m thankful that I had calm voices of reason to listen to during dark and scary times.
In January of this year after being a deputy clerk for almost 25 years, I quit my job at 48 to be my own boss. The hardest part was letting go of that cushy government health insurance. I’ve never in my adult life had to worry about healthcare because mine was cheap and literally covered everything. I’m doing direct primary care now.
I’m now a feral, homesteading mama who is self employed, has lots of side hustles, HODL’s bitcoin, uses Nostr, makes my own medical decisions and has a safe secluded place for my children to retreat to when the time comes within a community that I am building around us.
I am proof that if you put in the work and take a few risks every now and then, amazing growth happens.
We’re still trucking forward…learning new skills and adding new things. ❤️❤️❤️

For us, it means opting out of systems of control to the best of our ability. The more we can do and provide for ourselves, the less others have control over our personal life decisions. It means working outside “the system” as much as we can.

Today was my first time foraging on our property. I was pretty pumped at my haul. I brought in peach tree leaves, mullein, plantain, comfrey, dead nettle, chickweed, Queen Anne’s lace, boneset, yarrow, red clover tops and dandelion tops. I also found patches coming up of St. John’s wort and echinacea.

Tough week for us. The cow is not producing, therefore no milk or butter for any of my customers and now my weeks worth of my pre-ordered sourdough bread is ruined because it was on it’s final rise in the oven and the fam didn’t know and turned the oven on. #grownostr #homesteading
