No, they're not the same. Stupidity is doing it without considering just-as-effective (or more) alternative ways to get the job done, or, say calculating your odds of success, pain, or even the ROI.
The over-estimation of the thought time/energy & skill we upright primates put into things is the stupid.
Brave and smart are not incompatible, but the arguments they have are worth listening to.

Soundbytes generally serve no purpose than to give us puppies a good long chew session. The mistake Republicans make is that quiet puppies can lose weight and deteriorate quite quickly. Meanwhile in the Demland Lab of Puppy Nutrition....
It's really up to us to help people make the connection. As much as I'm burnt out from free labor, this is what moms do, and as usual, is what makes America tick.

Yeah, it's work to clearly explain the complex things you're up to. Most of us have been thinking we're entitled to be met wherever we are, that if we're taxpayer-citizens we deserve to grasp all of it. All that 'splainin' I'm putting in the bucket of "mom work," you know, the stuff that flew under the radar until we got tangled around it not getting done.
That's not to say the complexity isn't frustrating.

Out of my mom's 4 children, I was the one who decided to have one. Got them a CNA certification before college (resulted in a job from /hell/). That should be doable. I'm also the youngest.
On #2, the idea is to get it to shrink by fewer births, not people getting swept into the ocean by the latest cat6 hurricane, or by being left outside to die of kidney failure. That we're arguing about the nits of abortion, but not how to do this shows how behind we are.

Right. Old people can consume plenty. The glitch, IMO, is that too many can't afford what they really need. That we have to tax football tickets to make those ends meet is ridiculous.

Conversely, if the Democratic ticket would have made a point of courting green voters, putting more substantial policy plans in their docs, Gore would have won.
Democrats in general need to figure out they do in fact kowtow to the dollar and tradition, to conservatism, maybe even enough to lose elections. I'm not talking about legislative compromise, It's platform. Stability, "peace", & bipartisanship really isn't what voters want, or get us there

No one's ever called mine IBS bc I just medicate it when things even hint at getting dicey. Naproxen sodium (Aleve) OTC, and I have couple of prescriptions that slow things down, plus I don't eat to speak of. For the other, I take 2 or 3 Mg supplements and 2 or 3 docusate sodium capsules (much H2O). Two bedtime doses over 2 days if necessary. My fail safe solutions... so far.
Most folks swear by psyllium husk (Metamucil).
Beano and simethicone for gas.

It's brain-clearing time. It *is* productive. It's just hard to reconcile because the point of it is to feel like it isn't.

I use a municipal composting service. We have a huge, independent garden store that takes most of it, and some of it goes to local farmers who reliably sell at our (also municipally organized) farmers market.
One guy started the whole thing just by having the right conversations with key people. 450K people in the county have access to the service.

For real, that's how I give myself a hug and try to reassure myself I'm a decent human. It's not, by any means, how other people should go about nursing wounds, reorienting, or responding to a hit they took. I hear talking to friends helps most people the best, but I find my few friends tire of all the cogitating, and I get tired of dragging them through it. So, that's just where I'm at with it.

Cogitate a response that might get under their skin and clarify for them the ugly damage they did. That's not always as straightforward as it seems, as many don't give a f* if they're awful people. It's hard to find what they feel is important and appeal to that vs. a common sense of decency.
If I think they'll go around upsetting other not-particularly-advantaged people (purposelessly), I'll report them. If there's a purpose, I'll try to point out how their method is ineffective.
