Federation can be implemented in different ways:
ActivityPub is horizontal federation, each instance talks to each instance independent of relays or any other intermediate.
AT proto is vertical federation, each instance (PDS) depends on a relay (BGS) which crawls and distributes posts, like an intermediate in between.

Second day running the full-text search feature means Elastic stores 500k posts using 250mb and 10%+ more background jobs b/c new posts getting indexed as well.
Currently just a bunch of instances running the nightly build, hence this will change soon after the 4.2 release.

Today we had the first DDoS attack of a Mastodon customer instance.
The attacker used 800+ different IPs located at OVH datacenter in France to bring one instance down.
All other customer instances running fine b/c we used isolated servers.
The Fediverse is still running fine, thats the beauty of a distributed network.

What do I think about Threads?
