Oh man.
One of my MCs dreams that her house is an Arctic wasteland. She walks barefoot through a blizzard so loud that she can't speak or call for anyone.
She walks for miles through the snow until she sees, on the horizon, a single deer. It's the only warm creature that exists. She shouts for the deer, and even over the wind, it turns to look at her. It seems she might reach it.
But before she can, the deer runs. It has her brother's face.

No matter how close the pods were to the city, they'd have to be shot down. Every single one.
Commandant Vilny marched towards the wire office. Behind him, his attache followed, so covered in pod-dust that that his uniforms turned to shaggy brown.
"Commandant, I must protest!' said the attache. "The pods are too close! If they fall the city--"
"Will be covered," Vilny said. I know. And if we do nothing, the pods will grow in the sky until nothing can be done. So we act."
