There's no reason to post now, other than whim. But this was a great piece of art I came across. "Axis", by Jason Anderson, who paints many things in this style.
I love how it pushes impressionist style to the limit. I love the colors. I love how it comes together.

A good old communist / anarchist revolution would probably do the trick.
I modeled the world of Melodia (at least during the time of my first novel) on the mid-Victorian age in aesthetics, and with that comes the industrial revolution and rise of capital. So a good labour movement would go a long way towards helping people's lives.

Miles needed to stop Pav's canon event in order to involve himself in the main conflict. Realizing his father is marked for death gives Miles real skin in the game, but he started out just wanting to help his new friend. He acted entirely selflessly, as a Spiderman should.
Seeing a happy version of yourself, and working to preserve that happiness ... I don't know, that's incredibly engaging as a motivation to me.

Like, the main thing about Shinkai is that he is in love with both slice of life and heavily plotted films. And with Your Name, and Weathering With You, he very awkwardly flipped between the two modes in a way that made those films really drag (Weathering more than Your Name, to be sure).
Suzume'a main plot never really lets up until the credits roll. Slice of life elements are still present, but Shinkai has figured out how to integrate them naturally so they don't slow the pace down.

Wolf Children is a really good slice of life story about, uh, (were)wolf children being raised by a single mother. It'll make you cry, it's very sweet.
And The Boy and the Beast is another of his I really loved, about a small boy who wanders into the beast realm, is raised there for like a decade, then has to deal with reintegrating into modern Japanese society (while dealing with a martial arts movie plot along the way).

It's odd to think, but with all my work on the fourth draft of my novel, it's actually shaping up to be *shorter* than my first draft. Probably by between 5k - 10k words.
No idea if that's a good thing or not. I suppose it entirely depends on those words!
