In Spanish, we have a saying: "Cuando el río suena, es porque piedras trae," which is similar to "Where there's smoke, there's fire."
I’m not all in on BTC, not because I don’t want to, but because I don’t have much to invest in it currently. However, I do my part with what I can.
Regarding the Ross Ulbricht case, I tried to inform myself as much as possible, and this episode of @nprofile…vvhl was really helpful.
Now, with the U.S. starting this national reserve of seized assets, like the ones from Ross, and considering the very high likelihood that his case is, at the very least, partially framed in many areas, national powers, corporate power, etc. , all seeking a piece or control over BTC. In, well, questionable ways (like a president and his wife realizing just unfounded crypto trash!?). It all just keeps pointing to positive trends regarding the seriousness of its relevance.
The timing, with possible wars, is prime time for BTC’s value to rise.
The U.S. government appeals to populism, nationalism, and the constant new attempts to regain relevance.
Very interesting times, and I am amazed at the role Bitcoin will play in the coming years ahead of us.
I am thankful for Nostr, which continues to provide more and more insight to sideliners like me, who are just absorbing as much knowledge as we can while we consider our best way forward.

100% true!! Even now that's a good reminder, tool sickness is real haha.
We started with a $400 contractor saw. before upgrading we bought a planer and jointer, didn't expend more than $2000 on those last two combined and make over $200K easily in the spam of two years.
Of course we wanted the better set up and we did bought it eventually. Was way nicer.
My rule, buy the best tool you can afford at the moment that will last you the longer.

there are welcome and introduction relays...what about we encourage others to have some of those relays so they can read when a new person comes in.
depending on their introduction more or less people will engage.
I did use primal at the start and got many people saying hi.
but the trending. which currently I do not find that helpful, at the time it was very helpful to follow others. So that is a good one for that purpose.

I am fully sold in nostr. BUT, people are acting like you can't loose your identity and being hijacked...I have zero ability to fully control Internet providers, clients and dns's...there is no way to know if you have a keyboard logger, or a client miss use your nsecs.
I think we do need to do our best to keep keys secure, and plenty of cold backups. I am super confident on mine.
But we need a way to burn original nsec amd replace with some sort of backup and redundancy.
The whole idea of nostr being your identity and reputation falls apart when you actually are hijacked by nation state agency or something and your digital identity(nsec) taken from you. You always havr a way with your real physical identity to be in one place at a time and provee who you are. Up to this time there are no clones, until then. The digital and physical identity are still distance apart from a security stand point.
I will love to see nostr trying to find a way give key users a way to reclaim digital identity (ay least a limited amount of burner keys).
People always dismiss this worry as "they just don't know how to protect their keys" but the cybersecurity aspect and compromise current Internet infrastructure is beyond most people.
My two cents 😅😅. Love the work you are doing!

@npub1lrn…qnw5 my ideal scenario is that when you create your nsec, you are give lets say 5 more. in order to use any of the remaining 4 you need to burn the other one and input the one that are of have being burned.
e.g.
some one hack me and stole my nsec from my vault, took my hard note pad, or a client fail...I can input nsec#1 + nsec#2 and from that point on nsec#1 is not. usable any more... not sure how possible is that...but it will be nice.

My only concern is not loosing followers (which are almost none 😅) or whatever, is government or malicious actors impersonation. Of course the likelihood of me being a target is close to zero.
Most if us when we started the nostr journey we did it through a device or machine that likely could be compromise, and then again not all clients do best practices with nsec input.
I think is fair to say that there is potential for keys to be compromise from day 1. I am sure of my key back up and have no fear of loosing them, but if tomorrow they come after my faith or whatever belive I do fear impersonation. As I have seen in middle east, Venezuela, etc...I have no reason to belive any system I use is completely out of grab.
The internet is broken at a fundamental level starting with Domain providers and Internet providers.
I think a system with back up keys, to burn the original after a malicious attack could be beneficial, 100% on board on people learning to protect their keys, but this would make nostr even more censorship resistance....not sure if this is key rotation or not, just a thought.

This has been my biggest hang up on start experimenting. As I do not have the hardware to run 24/7 from home.
Have many open sources software that currently I am paying for managed services, like alby hub for example and others, that would love to try to manage my self.

So for example, the relay of Bitvora Haven by @npub1utx…50e8, it includes a Blossom Server for media. In this case, or in the case that you have a dedicated media server separate from the relay, the storage capacity will increase drastically right? Of course, depending on how much media you have.

#asknostr Relays, clients, etc where are they being hosted? Aws, Google, etc?
As a user I understand the decentralized strategy through relays and divers clients options.
But as developers (which I am not) , where are they storing their app codes and where are the relays storing the data. For the most part, as I assuming most big relays and clients are not using home servers.
So if I want to deploy let's say a Haven relay, not from my home network, what cloud provider, would you recommend me?
Hope there is logic in my questio. If not I welcome wisdom.

Real problem for sure. Goes both ways, exploitation for one side and then a cultural mindset that keep them in that place, foster by politics....and sadly politics are a reflection of the people.
Living here in the US, born and raise in LATAM, and now seen that when that nationalism spirit rise, the desire for fair and righteous towards "third world countries " mostly, vanish for citizens.
As long as its for "national interest",
As long as they can control and influence,
The real development is not even on the table discussion.
I am super happy to see the exceptions, which there are few, that leave that dependency mindset and go on actually building a powerhouse themselves.
We need in general, all, no exception, to be more empathetic towards one another.

I saw the entire presentation on YouTube...the whole project and design it's awesome!! Know this kind of projects are hard to bootstrap, but your use case and most importantly the easy to use UI looks like a game changer. Today is day 60 of using Qubes OS, and I really like it. I'm using it on my laptop as my daily driver, but my laptop has a sad 8GB of soldered RAM. Qubes OS is resource-hungry, so I can only run one or two qubes, and not very efficiently at all.
I'm extremely hesitant to install Qubes on my desktop, which is much more powerful, because of all the internal PCI configuration Qubes does. I'm sure I'll either lose access to my keyboard or graphics.
Any suggestions for alternatives? I want the same OS for both my desktop and laptop. I'm thinking of Pop!_OS. Any user feedback?
I'm trying to improve my privacy and learn more about Linux. I used Ubuntu for three years prior to this.

I need:
1) A media blossom server to share media on nostr.
2) A nostr relay that I can control, hopefully one that accept private/pay members? as I think will be good for building communities around the niches.
3) running my alby hub.
I belive you offwr all that.
Nice to have:
1) multiples nostr verifyers (NIP 50?)
2) multiple domains support under one acct.
3) I will love to ether offer for free or paying, one(or more e.g. woodworking relay / education relay) of the relays as a private relays to build chat rooms communities around it.
If for some reason (whish not) eggster stop to exist, can I transfer my things elsehwhere or download code and keep running it my self?
my biggest hinder is price...so I am trying to see what can I pay for and what not right now. 40+ is a strech, 30 is doeble, but can do the year right now. just a feedback, but not your problem 😅. I think the service is needed and looks awesome. defitnley giving a serious look into it.

First, I am not sure if the terms I use are correct, sorry in advance, doing my best to understand this ecosystemm.
I was not following much the different features that were develope for almost a year, and now I see many clients with their "Native Wallet" for example, primal premiun, olas, are two I have seen this.
First, I read these wallets tranfer accross platforms and go with the user, not the client. Is this correct? So if I create one in client "A", this wallet to use zaps will be available in other clients(A,B,C, Etc.) that suport this feauture?
Second, This by any means fuction as NWC, with my Alby extention,allowing me to connect with other nostr apps? Right?
Thank you! Trying to understand, the benefits and see if I should start using, I also am trying to onoard my wife to nostr and want to get her in with the most recent "best practices".

Speaking to the air myself, not sure what to think of all this yet. True anonymity does fix part of this; it’s hard to punish a plethora of individuals who have no faces in an open and decentralized system.
But a completely anonymous social interaction misses the mark of being social entirely.

Genuine question. Have been thinking about this lately, if they can not go to a specific leader or entity of an organization. Will not they go directly to the users right away, regardless of how decentralized the system is? In that sense the companies serve as a buffer.

This could be a great addition, though I'm not sure if it's exactly what I'm looking for. I don't think I'm ready to fully replace my current Ghost website or create a duplicate copy. However, I would love to distribute my content on Nostr.
Since I'm not very technically savvy, I'm unsure how to approach this. I've looked into Habla.news and similar clients, but copying and pasting doesn't sound very appealing. Ideally, I'd like to make a post on my site and have it distributed everywhere in the ecosystem.
Npub.pro essentially creates a duplicate of my site, right? Wouldn't this affect SEO on traditional search engines? I don't necessarily want a duplicate, but I wouldn't mind fully transitioning to a Nostr-based website eventually.
I could definitely see myself paying for the pro version down the line. Do you have any samples of people currently using Npub.pro? I look for it on the stite but did not saw them, exept from the testimonies.

Thanks! I remember seeing it when I first created my keys. I just checked it again, and it reminded me how easy it is to sign in with a new client. I’ll keep an eye on it.

#asknostr question: Does anyone know a way to distribute my blog posts on #nostr? I use Ghost CMS, and while I'm glad they decided to start working with ActivityPub, I wish they had chosen to fully embrace Nostr instead.
Any thoughts on this, or alternative suggestions, are welcome!
