Your note got me thinking about my story. My earliest music memories are of my mom playing ABBA and The Carpenters when I was very young. She would put on a record while doing house work. Karen Carpenters voice gives me chills to this day. The first album that made a big impression on me was Gun’s ‘n Roses Appetite for Destruction. A friend gave me a copy on a cassette and I thought it was pretty crap the first time I listened to it. I took it with me on holiday and listened to it over and over. Slowly the rhythm seeped into me and it became a favorite. But I can tell you exactly where I was standing when I heard Smells like Teen Spirit for the first time. It’s still so clear and I can smell the room I was standing in. It took me a week to find out who the artist was (the good old days of broadcast radio). I’ve never been a lyric guy, it’s the whole sound that I love and the voice is the lead instrument, not the words. I can never pick out a favorite artist or song - there are just too many styles and flavors to choose just one. That’s the beauty of music - it’s the universal language - the language of the soul

So my theory is as follows: Your first 20 years don’t really count (school, college, etc). Your productive years start after this. You will probably live to 80-90yrs old. This means that by 40 years old you’ve only been productive for a quarter of your life. This means that you should be getting better, faster and really hitting your stride by 50. Not thinking of retiring and dying.

I recently read an article by an economist calling himself a ‘real Keynesian’. This apparently means that you should print money to kick start a sluggish economy, but then you must pay it back when times are good. So my question is this: if you kick start an economy by printing money, and then when the economy is booming you remove the printed money, do you not then put the economy back where it was before? It sounds like a boost on false pretenses will not be sustained if the money is withdrawn. Am I missing something here? Any economists around that can help me with this? @npub1a2c…w83a

The old comments about how similar this space (BTC and Nostr) is to the early days of the internet, come to mind. Network effects are so hard for us to grasp. In the beginning it seems quirky and quaint, then suddenly it’s on everyone’s lips and it’s the ‘next big thing’. But the ‘suddenly’ part is actually years of hard work by people from all over contributing, sharing, helping and building. It reminds me of professional sports. By the time we, as the general public become aware of a new big name in sport, I can promise you it’s not because he or she decided yesterday to start training. The people that join in 10 years time will swept up in the network effect of this ‘new’ thing.

And don’t get me started on Windows wanting you to create a Microsoft account to start up a new laptop. Every step of the working day you are sent prompts to create an account. Default document saving location is Microsoft Onedrive, and it seems impossible to change the setting. I’ve paid for the laptop, and your OS license already, why do I need an account? What happened to free software being a hassle while paid software is awesome? I’ve used Windows laptops since the early 2000’s, and it’s getting worse in leaps and bounds.

I do find that books have a different message for each person. I’ve re-read books years later and found whole sections I could have sworn weren’t in the book the first time I read it. What resonates with me is sometimes just noise to someone else. Do you highlight the sections you enjoyed or the sections you think the other person will enjoy?

I agree with your 3 needs. That’s what I want too. I’m not a dev so I don’t understand much of the discussions about op codes. But the philosophy of #bitcoin is really interesting to me. Saylor’s view resonates with me. The fact that he has such conviction and he put so much money into this is also amazing - he backs his views with incredible action. Many are talking about having to fix the problem of not enough bitcoin (utxos) for everyone. But if we look at the gold standard, I’m not sure how many people actually held and used gold in the past. Surely not everyone owned a gold coin?
