Its fascinating to me to realize that I became someone with a sense of fashion (especially compared to many folks in my industry or the predominantly-straight people I grew up around), and mostly without having leaned into especially masculine or feminine presentation

Letting go of beliefs about my inherent competence (and incompetence) at certain things and just trying them has probably changed me more than anything else in life. You don't know how good you can be until you try to improve. You don't often even know how much you'll enjoy it until you're partway through that process.

I was recently prompted to read this 2015 article about raising kids https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-secret-to-raising-smart-kids1/ again and it's given me a chance to reflect on how I was praised for being smart as a kid, but the only feedback I got around effort was disappointment in my lack of it.
It's only been concurrent with transitioning that I've learned to overcome fear of failure and find a kind of ambition based in the idea that maybe if I put more effort in, I'll (sometimes) get more results out.
