I call them blind financial crises. We'll be in recession, a housing crisis, health care insecurity and more... but they won't be reported so the impact will be blind to most who aren't experiencing it personally.

I've been shouting this for some time to mostly deaf ears. We must organize at the community level a sustainable infrastructure and a market system.
We had a corporate favored administration even before Trump took office. Now, as we're being hit in the face with it... will we be in time?

My dream was to be a professional musician. I was a keyboardist and a pretty good one. I was usually in more than 1 band at a time for years.
I kept that musicians dream alive well beyond my technology stint. But my backup dream was to be a web developer.

Totally agree with you. When I see the cabinet choices that were made, they weren't impulsive, tey were planned.
I don't know if Trump is going to attempt to make good on his promise to deconstruct the election process to where he can stay in office indefinitely, but nevertheless, we're about to see a systemic and political upheaval where nothing will be recognizable.

Nice article. It's good to see an openly positive write up about the future of our possible interoperability rather than a constant beat-down of Threads/Bluesky.
For sure, they need a healthy amount of criticism, but it's a plus if you look at it in the perspective of better connections and communication.

It is a real possibility that war exacts a heavier toll on the climate than all the top polluting industries and wealthy combined. Yet no one has to tally the results, and it is barely publicized.
Countries fighting, or aiding and abetting war are fast-tracking catastrophic conditions with literally zero culpability.

There is a saying among studio engineers when a musician can't nail their part "we'll fix it in the mix".
Hardly anyone gets this, but our society can't be "fixed in the mix". A democratic election 5 years from now isn't going to make everything peachy.
It's already destroyed, we're just coasting down the road until we come to a stop.
Now's the best chance to rip out all the broken shit (like almost everything) and rebuild it from the ground up.

Yeah I get that. I did my share of drugs but never overindulged. Never had a tendency towards addiction. I was the mediator, the go-between keeping my friends from doing stupid shit. I can't say I never did stupid shit, but them, way worse.
I stayed in that neutral territory, never really fitting in to any other group. Now that I see the big picture I offer hints to try and keep the population from jumping off a cliff, but I get looks like I'm intruding on their fun. Oh well...

I've been watching videos of dashcam traffic accidents (don't know why I got started). But it's a great indicator of how bad people's attention spans and decision making can be.
Hint: It's so bad there's no hope of survival, and I'm not talking about the accidents themselves.

The only legitimately helpful things I've seen for the last couple weeks is reporting on climate change and some Covid/Bird Flu monitoring.
We're not witches and wizards here. All this talking is not casting spells (which would probably be quite useful).
