Paging the Fediverse! I've been out of work since the middle of 2024 and would like to change that :-)
I'm a software engineer of more than 25 years' experience. Most recently, I have been doing back end work using TypeScript, Ruby, and Java. I've worked at an ISP, at a national broadcaster, a high-volume web SaaS provider, and a medtech startup; I've led teams, been a tech lead, and been an at-the-coalface coder.
Do you know of somewhere that could use my experience? I'm a British citizen living in Denmark, and I'd strongly prefer not to have to move. Yet.

@nprofile…gfyr Believe me, us trans folk are WELL aware of this. We’ve being saying it for YEARS, so this is less “the Danish government providing a warning to trans people” and more “everyone ignored trans people, things got gradually worse, and now cisgender folks are starting to notice too”

Until we have essentially "solved" the climate crisis, the mass provision and use of AI is immoral. Their energy usage is simply indefensibly high.
Same goes for cryptocurrencies and blockchain of course, but that's both more widely understood, and no longer the thing that businesses are eagerly throwing money at, fearful of missing out.

Idea: sports competitions shouldn't constantly be chasing the outliers — fastest, furthest, strongest, etc. Instead, the goal should be to hit the mean average in your class. "Closed bids", each competitor doing their run (etc) solo, without knowing the others' times. Most average wins.
*That* should suit your bimodal distribution.

I see the sports folk are getting upset that a bimodal distribution doesn't neatly map to a pair of disjoint sets. Nature be awkward like that.

My flight home from London yesterday evening was delayed, apparently due to some storm somewhere. We landed 2 hours late, but by then it was too late for sensible public transport home, so getting home took 2 ½ hours instead of the hoped-for 1 hour. Finally fell into bed at 4am.
I’m not much use to anyone today. Work will have to wait until tomorrow. 😴
