This is conceptually exactly what Apple Private Relay does. But Apple only does it for select Apps at TCP and UDP layer. This is IP layer.
Apple Relay has some benefits. One example is b/c Apple will not allow IP location spoofing they get blocked a lot less.
I like Apple Private Relay but am definitely looking forward to a generalized solution like this.

This really is crazy good.
I was kinda of skeptical about no IDs as a user experience. But once you think about decoupling user IDs from pairwise communication channels underneath, the possibilities are endless.
Everything you get from blinded emails and more. You could even make a bridge from an email domain and get exactly that.
Please start thinking about ID layers on top.

No the energy is not a bug it’s a feature. The coins cost energy to make b/c you cannot fake energy. They cost more energy when more people participate because then there are real market forces.
While there is no empirical proof bitcoin causes better allocation of resources(you’ll just have to make up you’re own mind) assuming it does, the energy savings from less misallocated resources vastly outweighs the energy spent mining bitcoin.

Honestly, for any home setup, I don’t recommend anything that uses a client. They are all pretty bad. Setup a VM or Docker that does Wireguard to Mullvad. Few iptables rules to NAT all outbound traffic to the tunnel IP. Any home client you want on VPN, point to VM/Docker as default gw. If not leave .1 as default gw. Best of both worlds.

Simple answer for home wifi if you have a little linux knowledge, make a vpn gw vm/docker i.e. x.x.x.2 instead of dot 1. Any host you want to use the vpn just have dhcp repoint the default gw to dot 2. No more horrible vpn clients.
