I have to be in the right mood to 'enjoy' debugging Linux issues.
For example, when I upgraded my ThinkPad from 23.10 to 24.04, it catastrophically broke (critical packages disappeared), so if I had rebooted it, I would have a tough time fixing it.
On that occasion, it wasn't my primary machine, so I dug in and fixed it.
I think that's the key. If it's a primary machine, Linux glitches stress me out, as I lose productivity.

I usually use 'for f' in bash scripts. The 'p' comes from the most popular answer on stackoverflow for 'how do i read a file in a bash script?' in which they read a file called peptides.txt

It'll be interesting to see what works and what doesn't on this machine. A real opportunity for enthusiasts to help test, file issues and provide help in porting open source software to a newer architecture. This seems like a great project. I hope it's reasonably priced, and decent availability.

I like the idea of #Windows #recall The implementation seems to be flawed. But I do like the concept of being able to search through past activities, data scraped from screenshots, window-titles and other metadata.
Yes, Microsoft seems to have botched the launch of Recall.
That doesn't mean it's a useless feature that "nobody" wants. Some of us do.

The point I was making was not that you're saying it's impossible to install a deb.
The snarky point I was making was that a year ago you were fine recommending people install gdebi. Now you're incandescent with rage with a software choice in a product. It's all a little bit overblown.
Take a step back and think why it might not be a good idea in general to make it easy to install random debs from the internet?
On install, they run as root, and can do literally anything. 🤷

I doubt there's a fix for this. It's catastrophically broken. Packages that even 'apt' itself can't use. I wouldn't bother the desktop team at all. Just make sure that the docs are 100% clear that right now, upgrades aren't just unsupported but super broken.

What Linux distro are you running? Most are either not vulnerable (so no patch needed), or they were already patched. There's unlikely to be an update in flatpak, as that's for applications and frameworks which don't include the vulnerability.

I did some searching. The person follows me on LinkedIn which is.. interesting.
More interesting though is they work for a French company called "Alan".

I suspect they want the domain because my blog ranks high for "Alan" plus some keywords they care about.
I don't believe for a minute they want to make a community called "popey" at all.

What's the protocol when someone emails you asking you to "give up" the domain you've owned for 25 years because "You're only using it for a blog", and they want to use it for a community they want to build, and they don't want to have "JoinFoo" dot com.
Do nothing? Explain that other TLDs are available? Tell them to "Jog on?"
