so hunts can happen at any time of the year at any one of the 26 designated killing bays around the Islands. The grind has no hunting quota and therefore no limits, with the grind foremen of each district almost always authorising a hunt when a pod is spotted near the coastline - unless the weather or sea conditions are too hazardous for their powerboats and jet skis.
An average of 1150 pilot whales and other dolphins are killed every year over the past 40 years in the Faroe Islands.

Every year in the Faroe Islands, an archipelago which is a protectorate of the kingdom of Denmark situated just 230 miles north-west of mainland Scotland - around 1150 small cetaceans, primarily long-finned pilot whales and Atlantic white-sided dolphins are massacred in drive hunts called ‘grindadráp’ (Faroese for the killing of pilot whales).

We are asking the government officials in the Faroe Islands, self-governing archipelago, part of the Kingdom of Denmark, to use their authority and call for the end of the cetacean hunts that occur in the Faroe Islands. These hunts are both inhumane and environmentally damaging to wild populations. Please join us in asking the government to end this practice.

Locals call it the 'Grind' -- a brutal hunt where hundreds of dolphins are trapped in a bay, and butchered.
Dolphins are one of the earth's most intelligent species. They have memories and call each other by name. They understand joy... and grief. Imagine the terror they faced in that bloody cove.
These brutal hunts must end.

Every year, hunters round up thousands of helpless dolphins for hours using jet-skis and boats, before inserting metal hooks into their blowholes and using ropes to drag them alive to the shore, where their spinal cords are slashed with knives or spears.
With your support, we can end it for good. We MUST speak out to urge them to stop the slaughter!
