scratch that. it compiles against 32-bit glibc, but fails mysteriously with 64-bit musl. but when i try to run it, it complains about not finding any fonts (even when i install the standard xorg bitmap font collection) and dies. someone urgently needs to teach siag about freetype...

i expected the exit poll would overstate Labour and understate the Tory results, and so it seems - the BBC have put a revised estimate out; Labour are now forecast to gain 405 seats, the Tories 154, the Lib Dems 56, the SNP 6, and NF 4 (of which they've already won 3).
which makes NF not quite the dog that didn't bark, but certainly not the success story they might have been hoping to be.

Rayleigh & Wickford has stayed Tory - but fully 55% of Mark Francois' votes last time didn't bother showing up. 12,000 of them clearly went to Reform, which just beat Labour to come second (Labour's vote share increased too), and the only reason he won at all seems to be because his majority last time was over 30,000 - one of the safest seats in the country

...actually i'm wrong. the most extreme MRP - the one that has the Tories dropping to 53 seats - has this seat turning red too... but honestly, i'm sceptical of that one. every other MRP and prediction has this seat staying Tory (even if only just), because of the aforementioned gerrymandering

* yes, it's a new constituency, but it's pulled from two former Tory constituencies, and gerrymandered such that the extrapolated Tory vote in 2019 was greater than in either preceding constituency alone

if not, then i am content that i've influenced nobody in my constituency, and taking comfort in the fact that i've not voted for the winning party in any election since 2010 (and then i voted Lib Dem, and arguably we all lost)
