Your writing example looks very smooth and even ink flow for a dip pen, so whatever you are doing seems to be working!

last time I tried seriously (2019) I found things broke a lot.
I get serious "I'm too old for this shit" feelings when I look at it now. But apple keep enshittifying further and I want to have a plan.
are you using pipewire?
I also found bitwig worked well on linux, but i never really got on with bitwig, though if was doing mostly midi that would probably change.
I'm on Reaper and likely to remain so.
I found though that Reaper was fine on linux it was driver performance, with inconsistent latencies between restarts and lack of some top plugins that keep me away now.

@nprofile…0nz2 ah OK, I know nothing about those. I still have a couple of firewire RME interfaces, but performance on linux was much less good with ffado than with RME drivers on mac. That's all ancient history now I guess. They still work on mac though, amazingly!

I'm hoping someone will create an open instance for my region (NE england, or the whole UK with postage).
Or for a way to use existing already installed instances of other activitypub platforms..

Is there any system on the fedi to facilitate the transfer of physical goods?
For example a secondhand marketplace, freecycle, or anything in between that helps people who need stuff meet people who have stuff. It would need to be localised obv.
I have been cleaning and tidying and I have stuff to give away and maybe some to sell or trade.

any #fountainpen nib experts here?
here's some pics of a nib that has potential, but is a bit scratchy, its a 14ct gold broad nib for a #Parker 45 - it is slightly flat giving some line variation like an italic nib but less extreme, and it is surprisingly flexible for a tiny P45 nib.
I almost really love it but I want to reduce the scratchiness - it isn't in any particular direction, and I'm not sure if lapping it is a good idea.
I think I see some slight tine misalignment. but I'm curious what others, especially nib experts, see here.

If I were to indulge in a vintage fountain pen with a flexible gold nib, what should I look for on the lowest budget consistent with getting good results?
There's a lot of #Parker slimfold on ebay, though 70% of them the nibs look damaged

TIL about plumbers hemp as an alternative to teflon tape. Looks like it takes more skill and effort to use though.
My immediate application was a #fountainpen, I'm not sure if the hemp would be fine enough for that but I might get some for general plumbing.
Also there's a product called loctite 55, which is ptfe (teflon) free - however it's still plastic (nylon) and comes coated in a goop, the contents of which I have not researched closely.

Does anyone here use a flex nib for writing rather than drawing?
I'm thinking of something like the noodler's Ahab.
Has anyone here hacked a regular #6 nib to make it flex more for example by grinding semicircles out of the sides?

Question:
Is there software that allows algorithmic 2D drawing in the same way that #openscad does for 3D?
Or even better , is there a way to add the concept of a line to openscad?
My use case is that I have algorithmically created 2.5D models in openscad that I want to cut on a CNC router.
By 2.5D I mean stepped shapes where there are multiple levels of depth, but each level is describable with a 2D outline seen from the top. Think of a terraced hillside.
Using a 3D model leads to inefficient and innacurate toolpaths, and I want to just use the outlines, and manually specify the depths in the toolpath generator. (#estlcam)
I can create 2D shapes using projection() but it doesn't render any steps in the model there's either something there or nothing.
openscad can't conceive of a line, only solid shapes.
I could just draw the shapes in #inkscape, but that would mean redrawing it all every time I change one of my parameters by 0.5mm

@npub1a76…3kkt I just signed up for tutanota and I have two questions I cannot find answered anywhere.
1. Can I change the text/UI size in the tutanota client (desktop for mac specifically). I don't mean in email text but in the app itself. If not do you intend to add this feature?
2. Can I (with a paid subscription) store emails offline on my machine, and delete them from your server so they don't count towards my storage quota, and also just becauise there's no need for them to hang around on your server once I have a copy. (In other words can I emulate old fashioned pop3 email.)

As we get ever more tools for virtuality and simulation, I like to keep a foot on the ground. So over the years I've built quite a lot of musical equipment that doesn't use code or digital tech.
Most of it has never been shared publicly. But I think I should start.
Here's a speaker cabinet for #electricGuitar.
It is an unusual design. I call it an open front cabinet - aka detuned cabinet.
#Guitar speaker cabs are usually either sealed, or open at the back.
