@nprofile…fpcl because the expensive-to-compute result needs to be easy to verify.
If the correctness of the result isn't knowable by the server without doing all the work again, then it fails as a proof-of-work verification.
That's the reason one-way cryptographic functions are used, and not work such as, say, protein folding.

@npub1cmr…kh3l I think it was Herb Sutter in a CPPCon talk that said that "breaking compatibility costs 10 years". He was talking about programming languages, such as Rust vs. CPPNext.
Still, if you're willing to spend 10 years, breaking compatibility can be better if it results in an overall better system.
I think Wayland is the "overall better system". It might be a shame that it costs a decade, but iteratively improving X11 to meet the same standard isn't feasible.

- Windows has containerization now. If you still can't run python securely locally, that's an indictment of your OS.
- sending data from Excel worksheets to a remote service is a potential information leak, so I hope you're not tabulating patient data or the like.
- managing the python installation for Excel is what Excel is supposed to do, not the user.
