That was my FIL. He drank heavy all the way into his late 30's, then was able to completely kick it. But by then his liver was FUBAR'd and the doctors told him it was just a matter of time. His quality of life deteriorated pretty hard over time and he didn't even make it to his 60's. Severe liver cancer.
